YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Life This is the best day to swipe and match on dating apps By You Magazine - December 29, 2021 Dating hasn’t exactly been easy over the past couple of years. The ‘hassle of going out’ combined with lockdowns and Covid restrictions has created so many hurdles to meeting someone new that the effort can sometimes outweigh the motivation to get back on the dating scene. Dating app Hinge has predicted some of the dating trends we’ll see next year, including the rise of voice notes and being upfront with your relationship goals. But now, Tinder has gone a step further and revealed there is a particular day of the year when you’re more like to get a match on dating apps. Getty Images Dating Sunday is the busiest online dating day of the year, and it falls on the first Sunday of January. That means it will be the 2 January for 2022 and according to Tinder, it’s set to be the busiest day for swiping – left for ‘not interested’ and right for ‘yes please’. The dating app revealed nearly 10 per cent of all swipes in January typically happen on the first Sunday. In 2019, a whopping 44 million matches were made on Dating Sunday. Dating app Bumble, in which the women have to message their matches first, saw a 15 per cent increase in matches on Dating Sunday in 2020. Hinge also saw swipes increase on the same day last year, with 22.5 per cent more people using the app. Getty Images But what is it about that post-New Year weekend that’s more likely to get you a match on dating apps? Speaking to Stylist, dating strategy coach Ellen Nguyen said it could be down to the motivation and hopefulness we often feel in new year. She also suggested that, after socialising with couples during the festive season, people might want to find a partner of their own. ‘Also, there’s not much to do on Sunday evenings in January, especially during Covid,’ she added. ‘So joining a dating app definitely has its appeal.’ If dating more is one of your New Year’s resolutions, now’s the perfect time to update those profile photos and get ready for the matches to roll in!
