GMC Shows Off Its Next Electric Pickup Truck

We already knew GM was building a second electric pickup truck, but it refused to confirm what this new model would be called, until now. This is our first look at the all-electric GMC Sierra pickup. In a press release, GMC refers to the new truck as the "electric Sierra," though this does not sound like an official name. We expect this model will adopt a similar naming structure as the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, likely arriving on the market as the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 EV. Setting the name aside, GMC confirmed the electric Sierra will only arrive in luxurious Denali trim, meaning there won't be an "entry-level" base model to rival the Ford F-150 Lightning Pro, at least not at launch. Perhaps General Motors will save that role for the upcoming Chevrolet Silverado EV. GMC GMC GMC "Sierra Denali holds tremendous equity for GMC and our customers," said Duncan Aldred, GMC vice president. "We now have an opportunity to evolve Sierra's capabilities and technologies, as afforded by transitioning to an all-electric propulsion while also elevating the luxurious design and comfort associated with Denali." The teaser doesn't reveal anything new about the truck's capabilities, but shows that the front end looks significantly different than the recently facelifted 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The headlights aren't the same shape, and there is no physical grille because the electric Sierra doesn't have en engine to keep cool. Like the upcoming Hummer, the electric Sierra boasts a unique lighting sequence. It's unclear if the three headlight bars will indicate charge level, as they do on the Hummer. GMC GMC GMC says the electric Sierra will use the same Ultium Platform as the Hummer, with "the premium materials and capability customers have come to expect from GMC trucks." We assume the Sierra will get the same 200-kWh battery found in the Hummer, which should enable a 300- to 400-mile range. An official reveal will take place in 2022 with the truck entering production at GM's Factory ZERO Assembly Plant in Detroit and Hamtramck, Michigan. GMC GMC
