It became an instant hit and a household item, bringing joy to many kids. The pop culture-based Happy Meal toys were a revolution that kept going ever since. But there's a caveat. The target audience of the Happy Meal was, and still is, children, and there were many pop culture staples that just weren't added, or even considered, due to them missing this target demographic. And thus, many nostalgic characters and icons from the '80s weren't produced. However, that doesn't mean that we can't actually satisfy our curiosity and speculate on what they might've looked like, from the box to the action figure itself. The Toy Zone asked their designers to try and make Happy Meals that many of us would pay top dollar to get, ones which include memorable characters from movies that were not so friendly to the child demographic, to some that were just overlooked, despite them becoming all-time classics, like My Neighbor Totoro. For the uninitiated, Totoro is a mysterious forest spirit that can only be seen by children. He was the star of a 1988 Studio Ghibli anime. His main feature is being adorable. Sadly, a Stephen King Happy Meal would probably suffer the same fate. A shame, cos dads in McDonald's across the States would have loved tearing a tiny, ax-wielding Jack Nicholson out of the Happy Meal box and yelling, 'Here's… Ronny! McDonny!' at their confused offspring."

Disney and Studio Ghibli have a history of quibbling, but whatever side of the fence you fall, this collab is fire. Now, if there's one thing the world's not short of, it's Totoro merchandise. "McDonald's wasn't the first fast food joint to issue a movie tie-in kid's meal. Burger Chef released a Star Wars Funmeal in 1978 when there was still only one Star Wars movie! But imagine if McDonald's continued the science-fiction streak that began with the 1979 Star Trek Happy Meal tie-in by putting a grizzled Harrison Ford/Rick Deckard in lunchboxes…The original Blade Runner came out three years after Star Trek. The Philip K. Dick adaptation achieved only moderate box office success at the time, and it took years to develop first a cult and then a mainstream following. For this reason, TheToyZone reckons the Blade Runner Happy Meal toy would be super-valuable and hard to find these days – a bit like those pesky replicants."
