Woman Presents 6 Constructive Arguments On Why Those Who Consider A Fetus To Be A Baby Are Wrong
Konstancija Gasaitytė
BoredPanda staff Abortions and recent laws related to it have always been followed by a heated debate. It divided people and made them choose between "pro-life" and "pro-choice" or "pro-reproductive rights" and "anti-abortion". After Texas implemented an anti-abortion law on September 1st, 2021, people became even more vocal about this issue, stressing what really is at stake in this case. One of the TikTok users @drq_dpt made a video accentuating what should change in the system after a fetus is recognized as a baby. This TikTok soon became viral with more than 400k views inviting people to discuss this matter further. More Info: TikTok Talks about the anti-abortion law stirred quite a debate and caused a division in society

Image credits: drq_dpt These two viewpoints draw a very strict line between what people believe is the right thing to do in case of unwanted pregnancy. Those who choose "pro-life" are known to be concerned about the well-being of a new life, not taking into account that the woman who is carrying the fetus would not be able to raise and take care of the newborn. Their main argument is that even at the very early stage, the fetus is already alive and has the right to live. "Pro-choice" supporters think that women are the ones in this case who have the right to have the final say. There are numerous situations when an abortion is needed in order to save a woman's life. Image credits: drq_dpt Quozette Valera who is a pelvic floor physical therapist shared her thoughts on TikTok about the anti-abortion law and how things should change so that both, the fetus and woman, would be well. One of the most important parts of the debate is whether the fetus should already be counted as a live human being. Having this in mind, the TikTok user presented some of the possible implementations in case the fetus is considered to be a baby. Image credits: www.tiktok.com Image credits: drq_dpt Image credits: drq_dpt She started her video by suggesting there should be a life insurance policy that would entitle women who had a miscarriage to receive insurance. While applying her makeup, she also added that with this implementation, having 6 miscarriages would then make her a millionaire. Quozette suggested that if a fetus is a baby, then child support should also start not from the moment the baby is born, but right after the pregnancy is confirmed. She then goes on with a few more examples of how things should change once the fetus is treated like a baby. Image credits: drq_dpt The TikTok user ended her video by saying "But now because a fetus isn't a baby, you just want to control a woman's reproductive rights". A lot of people in the comments agreed with the creator, stating that it is easy to demonstrate one's morals, but it takes time and recourse to actually make these things happen. What is your take on this situation? Leave your thoughts in the comments down below! Image credits: drq_dpt You can watch the full video here

POST Burs Burs Community Member • points posts comments upvotes 1 year ago This is brilliant. But for me there is one argument that winds them all. Foetus are not babies but it is irrelevant. The government does not have the right to ask you to donate your body to save another person, even if they will die. They cannot force you to donate blood or give part of your liver to save a citizen that will die. Every “pro life” person would be against that. Therefore the government cannot force women to risk their life and health and give their uterus to a fetus no matter if it’s or not a person. 51 51points reply Abhinc Abhinc Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 year ago (edited) and the government can't force you to give organs after you die. dead bodies have more rights than women !! and btw i think we need to stop calling them "pro life'. they are just anti freedom !! 27 27points reply Load More Replies... Seriously? God no, laws exist so a country will millions of people can get along and live heathy fulfilled lives. The problem is when greedy government officials put laws into effect that only benefit them instead of for the benefit of their people beginning with the most vulnerable. I personally really appreciate my freedom of speech, my right to clean drinking water, to have access to a bathroom. That employers have to provide a safe working conditions, that houses have to be built safe enough they don't just fall on our head after just moving in. That schools are free and kids aren't allowed to work. Their job is to have a future. Because there is a law about air quality, my city isn't full of smog like it use to be. Laws are a tool. There are many laws that make out lives safe and healthy, there are many that we desperately need but are being blocked by the rich and powerful. Because it doesn't benefit them but us. Then there are laws put in place by the rich and powerful 8 8points reply Kendra Miller Kendra Miller Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 year ago That only benefit the rich and powerful, it's those laws we should be fighting. 5 5points reply Adriaan Verhelle Adriaan Verhelle Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 year ago But like Benjamin mentioned, every law to make the freedom of the community better comes at the cost of personal freedom. Yeah, brilliant logic here. 0 0points reply smugdruggler smugdruggler Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 year ago It's not a logical argument, it's a legal one. And making a law means drawing a line somewhere. So while the line is not, as you suggest, at birth it does have to be drawn somewhere. Preferably somewhere that is logical, which the new 'heartbeat' rules certainly aren't, and not based on the foetus' rights to the exclusion of the woman's. 0 0points reply BluEyedSeoulite BluEyedSeoulite Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 year ago You can't abort a post 22 week fetus UNLESS there is a MAJOR medical issue. It's always shocking for me to see how people fight to treat the "symptoms" not the root of the "symptoms". You want to stop the abortions? Then go to deal with the reasons why women want/need the abortions in the first place. Is birth control readily available/affordable? Is the father taking the responsibility? Is it a seed of the rape? Was a teenager too ashamed to buy birth control/unable to ask parents for it? Was a teenager denied the sex education? Etc. Pro-life people have tons of energy and a great ambition. I just really wished they used it in a right manner. 26 26points reply Rei Rei Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 year ago (edited) Absolutely agree. I am pro life but I would never judge a fellow woman in a stressful situation who chose abortion, but rather offer the (emotional) support she needs. Too often, the women do not get a proper and much needed support and I can't imagine how distraught many of them must be being pregnant on top of being in the middle of a vulnerable phase of life where they feel like they wouldn't be able to take care of (yet another) baby. 5 5points reply Load More Replies... blugeagua blugeagua Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 year ago It's still just a fetus. Women in third world countries have all kinds of babies and make it work and snowflake women in the richest country cant even have one bc they are "not ready" blah blah blah. What a sick joke. -4 -4points reply Adriaan Verhelle Adriaan Verhelle Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 year ago "Is the father taking the responsibility?" The current law actually prevents that because until birth, the father has no decision right with regards to the baby since legally he has not been assigned as the parent yet. So the mom can smoke, drink, do drugs and eat junkfood while pregnant and there is nothing the dad can do about it. The absence of fatherly responsibility cuts both ways I'm afraid. 2 2points reply sofacushionfort sofacushionfort Community Member • points posts comments upvotes 1 year ago Any middle ground here or…no? Both sides must acknowledge this fact: there will always be abortions. Will the pro-choice agree that an abortion isn’t a very humane thing to do to a human being, even if it’s still a fetus? Will the anti-abortion side agree that the best way to reduce them is by sex-ed and birth control, and acceptance of human sexual activity in its actual wide range? Do that and I guarantee you that legal abortions will be far, far fewer than coat-hanger abortions. 16 16points reply Troux Troux Community Member • points posts comments upvotes 1 year ago (edited) "Will the pro-choice agree that an abortion isn’t a very humane thing to do to a human being, even if it’s still a fetus?" This has never, ever been a point of contention unless you believe far-right media. Pro-choice people don't go out and have abortions for fun. It's f*****g awful and exhausting and tragic and will likely haunt you for the rest of your life emotionally and no pro-choice person wants to go through an abortion themselves. However, they want to BE ALLOWED TO go through with it when it's the better long-term choice for themselves and the potential child, especially if it can happen before the sense of pain is developed (~20 weeks). These are women trying to look out for children by not knowingly bringing them into a bad situation. Maybe while we have over 100,000 children in the US currently up for adoption, we shouldn't be FORCING more into the country without a welcoming family? To quote D**k Wolf, "an unwanted child’s already got two strikes against it." Unfortunately I was raped by my long term boyfriend who purposely got me pregnant... threw out my birth control AND pulled the condom off without my knowledge... we always used a condom even though I was on the pill... that's how fucken safe I was at all times... I did the responsible thing but I trusted the wrong man and got pregnant and that's when I realized I needed to get the F**k out of that relationship and move far away and get somewhere safe where I can start over without my past ruining my life and without my ex having a hold on me or my future emotionally and physically... and that's what I did. I didn't make that decision lightly or easily or quickly. It took me weeks to decide.. I didn't even find out I was pregnant until I was 9 weeks. So in Texas I would have been f****d and would have never went to vet school or met my husband or built a future for myself that I deserved and dreamed of... all because of my abortion I was able 0 0points reply Emma Gee Emma Gee Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 year ago Able to get my life back... leave an abusive rapist... finish high school.. go to college... move to a place away from the toxic people that tried to steal my future from me and eventually allowed me to become the person I am who gets to help animals and people everyday while also being married to the best man I could ever dream of who supports me, who loves me, respects me, keeps me safe and helps me be the best person I possibly can be. Unfortunately I cannot have children now because of endometriosis.. which I probably would have went through hell carrying a baby anyhow... I wasn't diagnosed at the time this was before people actually listened to women and believed us when we said we are in pain and didnt minimize us everyday... so I know for fact I made the right choice. Also, I have two beautiful step daughters who I love with all of my heart and wouldn't trade for the world and that's all because I made a choice ... I chose me. I chose my future. I chose my life. -1 -1point reply Tamara Kroonen Tamara Kroonen Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 3 months ago (edited) I don't know what is less humane: an abortion to a fetus or no abortion and 2 miserable lives because the kid is not wanted and will probably be neglected or abused? The suffering is greater than if the child was aborted. An abortion or a severely disabled child who will suffer his whole life and his family with him? An abortion or the death of the mother because the pregnancy was a danger to this woman's health in the first place? You name it. Choices have to be made, life is all about choices and the lesson on Earth is to learn to make the right choice. And what is right, is all up to the individuals themselves. 0 0points reply BusyLizzy BusyLizzy Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 year ago This, 100%. 0 0points reply Emma Gee Emma Gee Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 year ago YESSSSS! Thank you. Now please scream it from the rooftops for the people who still don't understand that women who are "pro choice" are not "pro abortion" and don't enjoy having and abortion and don't ever want to be in that position where they have to make that choice... but when they are in that position, they want it to be THEIR choice and only THEIR choice and they want to be able to do whatever they deem necessary for their own life, survival and well being without judgement, without being called a whore, s**t or murderer... and they want to be able to have this procedure happen (if they decide that's what's best for their situation) in a safe, understanding and supportive environment without the beliefs, feelings and emotions of a bunch of strangers impacting their decisions, their recovery and their path moving forward. And by "their" I mean women... I mean me. -1 -1point reply Njoza Vi Njoza Vi Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 year ago My god. Reason. moving away from extremes. And thanks for the s**t shaming. Why don't you tell men to keep it in their pants? The current law actually prevents that because until birth, the father has no decision right with regards to the baby since legally he has not been assigned as the parent yet.
