Woman Sends Her Boyfriend A Pic Of Her Hairy Legs To Have A Laugh Doesn’ t Expect He Would Respond By Shaming Her Interview
Ieva Gailiūtė and
Ilona Baliūnaitė
Over the last few years, beauty standards around body hair have been steadily changing, largely as a result of many women happily rocking their natural hairy bits. More and more females are moving on from body-hair stigma and starting a mini-revolution by not shaving and encouraging other people to let it grow. However, when TikTok user bonedrymilkers decided to embrace her "winter coat" and send a picture of her unshaven legs to her boyfriend, things did not go smoothly. What was supposed to be sweet and funny turned sour-the BF replied that it's "kinda gross" and "unhygienic for a female," which was a glaring red flag in the woman's eyes. In just a few days, the clip went viral, amassing more than 15.2M views and almost 86K comments. Check out her full video below, and be sure to let us know what you think in the comment section below. Over the holidays this TikTok user decided to embrace her winter coat sending a photo of her unshaven legs to her boyfriend
The conversation turned sour when her BF said it s gross and unhygienic for a female

@bonedrymilkers Reply to @bonedrymilkers for those who wanted an update. our phone call was anticlimactic. it's obvious i wasted my time👍🏼 #greenscreen ♬ butterfly effect – demo – Sophie Holohan After some time, the TikTok user decided to post another video with an update for her followers. It seems that after exchanging a few more texts, the couple talked everything over and did in fact break up. As bonedrymilkers wrote in her caption, "It's obvious I wasted my time." A vast majority of her followers were on her side. Many wrote that the boyfriend's reaction was completely inappropriate, others started a discussion about double standards in the comments. Bored Panda reached out to Karin Lesnik-Oberstein, a Professor of Critical Theory at the University of Reading and author of The Last Taboo: Women and Body Hair, to find out why letting our natural hair grow is still deeply stigmatized. According to the professor, many women today feel the pressure to remove their body hair because it is "part of the construction of femininity in our culture (and most Western cultures, although to differing degrees and in some groups differently too)." When asked about why some partners may see hairy legs as "gross" or "unhygienic", Lesnik-Oberstein said it's because they are traditionally seen as masculine. "Masculinity in a woman repels many heterosexual men (and also many other sexual identities, by the way)," she explained. "This is a way to uphold the limits between differing sexual and gender identities." After all, there's no one-size-fits-all solution to this issue. To shave or not to shave-it's completely up to you. What truly matters is that you feel safe and welcomed as you are, with all of your body hair. "A partner who does not accept that too is not right for you," the professor said. "But for many women, shaving is something that they want to do for themselves too and they enjoy their partner admiring their shaven legs or other shaven body parts," she added. "See what is really right for you, but never allow any partner to be emotionally or physically abusive to you (including being verbally aggressive) about anything!" Still, we are surrounded by many unrealistic beauty standards that can sometimes lead to feeling shame. "Not shaving or shaving are not 'right' or 'wrong' in general but this depends on what kind of person you are." "This is also true for other issues such as wearing make-up, dieting, cosmetic surgery and so on, but it can take time and exploration of your feelings about yourself and your body to work out what is really best for you, so do take that time," Karin Lesnik-Oberstein suggested. Her followers were united and saw the boyfriend s behavior as a red flag

Frankly, if a girlfriend displayed an equivalent lack of awareness, I would seriously reconsider my commitment to her. These weird attitudes don't exist in a vacuum and they are often a symptom of a larger issue that is often not a benign as "I don't like hairy legs in women". I also prefer a woman with shaved legs. Society must have left its mark on me, but I would never force my SO to shave if she didn't want to, and I would never use a cheap excuse as hygiene. We are Homo Sapiens Sapiens. He basically gaslit her by saying it's unhygienic for females unless he really believes that in which case he isn't very bright. He then went on to call her gross and tell he she should be embarrassed....gross and embarrassed for having something that literally everyone has. It would be like if I like my man clean shaven and he shows up with stubble.. am I going to tell him that his stubble is gross, ung and an embarrassment or am I going to tell him I prefer him clean shaven because stubble just isn't my cup of tea and the smoothness turns me on. There's just a certain way you communicate with people you care about especially when it comes to sensitive issues like physical appearance. 8 8points reply NotTodaySatan!! NotTodaySatan!! But I didn't feel he was saying SHE was gross, but rather the hair was gross to him. If he felt she was gross he wouldn't have been with her and wouldn't have been tolerating it, saying nothing, until she opened the topic for discussion. I also don't think your comparison works. No one expects men to be clean shaven and it hasn't been a societal norm. A man shaving their body isn't anything new, it happens all the time. Though I'm unable, at the moment, to come up with a comparison myself, however. Maybe when men get mani/pedis? Both sexes have fingers and toes (well most people do). And women generally take care of their's. Though it has become more common for men, some women feel it makes them less manly. But telling your significant other going for a mani/pedi makes him appear more feminine and you are less attractive to him because you find it not sexy I guess would compare.... kinda. 0 0points reply Load More Comments POST Dee on bikes Dee on bikes Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 9 months ago Every time I hear women referred to as "females", I brace for a crappy opinion. 79 79points reply Ozacoter Ozacoter Community Member • points posts comments upvotes 9 months ago It seems to be the norm. Society must have left its mark on me, but I would never force my SO to shave if she didn't want to, and I would never use a cheap excuse as hygiene. We are Homo Sapiens Sapiens. Save for a few unique characteristics, such as reproductive organs, we are the same species and our hygiene standards are the same. 9 9points reply Celtic Pirate Queen Celtic Pirate Queen Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 9 months ago Right? If she didn't want him to give her honest feedback, why the hell did she send him the photo in the first place? (Though he could have been a little more polite about it.) -1 -1point reply NotTodaySatan!! NotTodaySatan!! I didn't think he was a jerk, I thought he was truthful. Like he said in their conversation, he had never mentioned it before, but she brought it up by sending the pic. She didn't get the reaction she anticipated from him and got mad about it. He is right in that he should be able to give an honest opinion to his girlfriend. Just because she didn't like the opinion doesn't make him a jerk. -4 -4points reply Mistiekim Mistiekim Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 9 months ago But he didn’t just give his opinion. He basically was telling her there was something wrong with her and that she was gross and should be embarrassed. That’s a whole lot different than just saying it’s a turn off. Plus there is a bit of a future implication here - if they ended up married and with kids that kinda thing might be neglected for a bit do to being busy/exhausted. Would he make her feel horrible at that time too? 17 17points reply purple zebra purple zebra Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 9 months ago This comment is hidden. Kid throws up and neither parent helps or comforts the kid because Daddy is grossed out by the throw up and Mommy is too busy posting the video of the kid throwing up and then looking to see how many hits and likes her post has gotten. -7 -7points reply Ms.GB Ms.GB Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 9 months ago He's not in the wrong for not being attracted to hairy legs but the way he went about it is the problem. Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 8 months ago I definitely feel he could have said things better. But telling your significant other going for a mani/pedi makes him appear more feminine and you are less attractive to him because you find it not sexy I guess would compare.... kinda. 0 0points reply Load More Comments Popular on Bored Panda I Used AI To See What These 23 Popular Cartoon Characters Would Look Like In Real Life 30 Y.O.
