This post may include affiliate links. #1 In 1999 I was in the 9th grade. I skipped school to sneak onto the set of a tv show that was filming an episode in my home town. Quickly busted, I was directed to a staffer that ultimately called my mom. After a brief conversation, the staffer got off the phone and sent me home with a release form to be an extra the following day! I can’t even tell you how excited I was! My mom filled out the release form and even called the school to excuse my absences (normally not that cool). The following day she took me down to submit the paperwork and then left me on the film set to experience not just my first day on the job, but my first day on any job, ever. What was my first assignment? Make and eat hotdogs at a street vendors kiosk while the episode’s guest star makes a grand entrance in an arriving bus. After a few takes we’re done of them disembarking the bus. It was time to take a break for lunch. I went inside the vacant building that was used in the scene we just finished shooting. Lunch would be served there and lines were already beginning to form. I wasn’t hungry, nobody told me to spit out the hotdogs I should’ve been fake-eating, so I went to find a seat. It was obvious there was not going to be enough chairs for everyone as they were remnants left behind by the previous occupant. Most looked broken but I managed to find a sturdy one to dust off with my jeans (give me a break, I was 15).
The next thing I know there… she… is! Walking in the door, with assistants on each arm
I hear one say “Don’t sit there, that one looks broken, let’s find you a seat away from all this traffic by the door. The eyes of her entourage scanned the dismal room for a suitable seat that would only reveal itself when I quickly leapt up from it to go stand in lunch line with the other extras. It was much shorter by then. I got myself a brownie and watched as all the other children lined up to meet her one by one! No way, right?! Well as the line got shorter and shorter I must’ve looked increasingly anxious and then ultimately disappointed, because once the line was gone, I stood there daydreaming a moment before heading towards the door. My exit was intercepted by one of the assistants. She asked in a curious tone “Before you go back to work, would you like to meet Rosa Parks?” I said yes of course and there on the set of Touched By Angel this is how we met. I shook her hand and not knowing what to say, I simply welcomed her to my hometown. Her assistant motioned to the dusty bottom on my jeans and thanked me for cleaning off Rosa’s seat. I responded with “Well, it’s about time.” (I probably should mention that I happened to be the only caucasian male extra that day, and I wish I had said “better late than never” but we still had a good laugh and even a light hug before heading back to work. m.imdb.com Report 9points the CHANCE plant POST #2 A series of events bought me into contact with the same person several times in one night. Probably one of the most eventful nights of my youth!
Sorry, it's gonna be a bit long this one, but I'll try to keep it as brief as possible.
It started when I was staying for the weekend at my friend Stacey's house because her parents were away and she didn't want to be in the house alone. We'd had dinner and I cut my hand on a broken glass while helping with the washing-up, and needed a few stiches. I went to A&E was seen by an angelic nurse who had just started her shift. Her name was Louisa.
After I was done, I went down the local to meet the gang. About 30 minutes in, a massive argument 2 tables down, resulted in a thrown glass smashing into my dome. Back to A&E, and the same angelic nurse. We had a little bit of banter, I got patched up and went back down the pub.
After the pub we went back to one of the lad's house for a bit of a house party. Text messages were sent out to almost our entire phonebook with an invite. Not long into the party, my friend Claire went into anaphylaxis from a nut allergy, fortunately she had an EpiPen, but I accompanied her to the ER. Surprise, surprise it was my angelic nurse. More banter (mostly about me being a danger hazard and attracting trouble). Once Claire's parents arrived I went back to the party.
By now it was in full swing and someone had bought a proper sound system, smoke machine, lights, the whole works! A bit of showing off in the garden resulted in me busting my stiches. Back to A&E. Back to my angelic nurse. I apologised for ruining her handiwork (she hated the pun!), she joked that I was going to singlehandedly bankrupt the health service.
I decided to call it a night, however, as I was staying at Stacey's house I needed to go back to the party to get her. When I got to the house, I noticed a LOT of smoke. The upstairs was on fire! Someone had already called the fire brigade but for some reason people just weren't leaving the party. I couldn't see Stacey so I went in and started kicking people out from the ground floor. I found her and we both got out. Stacey got a lungful of smoke, so she was carted off to hospital, where I met my angelic nurse again for a bit more banter and perhaps a little flirting.
Stacey was cleared to go home just after 6am. We went to the local Taxi office and who should be there? That's right, my angelic nurse! She and Stacey had a bit of laugh (mostly at my expense) and Stacey suggested that she should come out with us one evening so that we could repay her for all her work in keeping our circle of friends alive. Angelic nurse accepted!
My angelic nurse and Stacey celebrate their anniversary next week! When they got married Stacey said that their love "would last longer than the scar that bought them together", the scar on my hand! Report 6points sturmwesen POST #4 I had split up with my boyfriend about 9 months previously, not an acrimonious split, I just felt he wasn't really committed and we weren't moving forward. We'd stayed friends, however, and still met up occasionally, he wanted to get back together.
So we were in a bar in Central London, having drinks and he was pleading for us to reunite. "I'll make a commitment, we can get married," and I was wavering because he was a good guy.
It was a crowded bar and there was a big group of people next our table. Suddenly an Irish guy from the group leans over and says to my ex " Excuse me, you make a lovely couple, I think you should marry her."
"Thanks very much," says my ex, "That's just what I've been telling her!" The guy then turns to me and says, "I don't think you should marry him though, I think you should go out with me instead."
He waited until my ex went to the toilet, got my phone number and rang me later that week. That was 27 years ago. He's sitting next to me now, watching football. On a red eye from Los Angeles to Newark. Two rows back there was an insanely hot guy. No ring. So in my young self moment of weakness, I started a bit of flirtation. He flirted back. I get my seat switched to next to him. The flirtation increases to little this, a little that (very little of that). One thing leads to another and we see how much room there is in the restroom (don’t judge just yet). I go to work the next day, I walk into the office to be introduced to MY NEW BOSS. Lo and behold it’s Horacio Hottie. I, in my youthful exuberance joined the mile high club with my new boss. Awkward isn’t even close. *L*. (Admit it. You’re judging me - go ahead - I kinda earned it!) Report 3points enigma POST #9 My current closest, dearest friend was originally my older brother’s 5th grade best friend. We went to school together and were in the same class (being in a 7/8/9 split, him in 9 me in 7) .
I was a pretty lonely kid, my only friend was my cousin who also went there. For a week, my cousin was sick.
My brother’s friend figured “Yes, the perfect time to swoop in!” And he hung out with me for the whole week. He continued to hang out with me all year after that, then he went to high school and we see each other twice a week.
Today (October 17th) actually marks the one year anniversary of when he told me that he liked me.
For those wondering (nobody asked but here it is anyways) I told him that I wasn’t sure how to answer. Why? Because I had COVID and I had a fever of over 40°C. Eventually I did answer him with a direct yes. Report 3points Unnamed Hooman POST #10 I went on a 5 weeks roadtrip through the baltic states, just me and the dog and my van. Met a guy from norway on a camping side somewhere off the grid in latvia on the coast. He introduced me to a girl who was traveling by foot and who he took with him the last days. We liked each other, so we decided to spend a few days together and I invited her to travel with us and offered a seat and a bed in my van. She wanted to visit a specific place in latvia which I never heard of, but was in my direction anyway and so we did. We were exploring the spot and her dog ran into a couple on the beach, we went there and got to know them. The couple was on a "wedding challenge" (as wedding guests they got a list of tasks, for example making a congratulation video with strangers - for sure we did this) and spontaneously invited us to follow them to that wedding and celebrate together - they had to ask if its okay. We changed phone numbers and after a short while we got a call from the bridal couple with a lovely invitation to their wedding. And so we did. We were placed at a table and were blown away by the whole situation and really had a good time - in a far away country, along a traveler known for 2 days, on a wedding where we didnt know a single person. So we sit on that table and met a couple who shared the table with us, lovely peolple, told us that they have some kind of goat farm, close to nature somewhere deep in the countryside and invited us for a stay for a couple of nights. So we went to their place after the wedding weekend and were treated like family, it was so cool, never expierenced this kindness before. And the place... Old trees, a small river, a house without electricity and running water. Just peace and nature. They had a small herd of goats and to our surpise decided to slaughter a goat as a kind of present to celebrate and eat with them, family and friends. After we (the men) were finished with the goat and the women were finished collecting herbs and veggies in the forrest, milking the goats and making cheese, we went to the river for cleaning ourselves. While taking a bath he explained that this is also his ritual to spiritually wash the bad ghosts away and to thank nature for the goods it gave us that day. It was magical. Whatever, back to story... So with that couple from Estonia, especially with the guy - I'm still close friends with and we plan to meet next year. So many random things happened to me and at the end I found a new friend. Thank you universe. My husband was a player in a hostile alliance and attacked one of my alliance members. (Bear with me, I know this is super geeky). We fought bravely against this hostile player. It was a FB game so when I looked him up, I noticed he lived in my city and joked what if I met this guy from the hostile alliance. He quit and rejoined the game 3 months later. He ended up joining my alliance. We chat every night for a year before meeting in person.

Report 2points Ally100 POST #15 My husband and l went to college together. My best male friend was his friend from high school. When my husband transferred in sophomore year of course they hung out together. That meant WE hung out together. I didn't like him. I thought he looked sneaky. I found out he had a crush on me but my friend told him to leave me alone because l was a good girl and he was a dog. He lived in a house that was, well, across the street. My dorm and his street formed a T. When they were up to their noisy antics, My roommate would ask what are they up to now? Water fights, tag football, snowball fights, mud fights, midnight and EARLY am seranades, you name it they did it.
Fast forward 30 years. I saw a mutual friend from college when we were about to go on a midnight cruise. He grabbed my arm and was SO excited. "OMG you are not going to believe who's here!" He would not let go of my arm. I was excited too. He knew all the guys l had crushes on. I couldn't wait to see who it was. He had him in the phone yelling at him to hurry up. We finally met before we boarded. We looked at each other, shrugged our shoulders like "eh, it's you" did an A- line hug and went out separate ways.
All night long he kept following me asking where my husband was. I had to shoo him away. He was messing with my flirt game. I found out later, he was going the same thing to him. Finally, near the end of the night, he said "come on, let me buy you a drink." I got it, drank it, socialized a bit and was about to go when he said, " let me get you another. Was l going to turn down a free drink? NOPE! Next thing l know my husband is standing next to me with a drink. Later l found out our friend took my husband to the bar and bought 3 drinks, giving my husband 2. My husband said "What am l supposed to do with this? I'm no alcoholic" His reply, "give it to her" as he pointed to me. We stood there saying nothing for at least 10 minutes. I was thinking to myself "what's wrong with him? I know I'm cute. I have 4 phone numbers in this purse and he hasn't said anything!" Then he grabbed me, and threw me backwards into one of those Hollywood kisses where the woman's leg goes in the air. When he stood me up l was dizzy. I thought to myself "he should have done that 30 years ago." He got a phone call from our friend asking him to come to an after party. He kept saying no, l have to work early, l have something to do. We looked over the deck rail (we were on the uppermost level) there our friend was! He had seen the kiss. We laughed and he tipped his hat like I've done my job and walked away. He walked me to my car and we talked until 4am. I guess, 13 years later, the rest is history.
My best male friend from college (his friend from HS) and our buddy who put us back together were the groomsmen at our wedding on the beach. We still tell that story and blame it on him. Report 2points Crafty mama POST #16 Ok... so: A while ago a new kid came into my class and said his name was King, it was obviously a nick-name so I asked, "What's your real name?" and he said, "Zachariah," and my body kinda flinched. I'll tell you why in a sec. Then someone asked where he came from and he answered, "I came from Dallas, but before that I went to Anonymous Elementary..." which was the elementary school I went to, "...but I got expelled because I choked somebody." MY WHOLE BODY FROZE; WHAT I FEARED WOULD HAPPEN HAPPENED.
Ok lemme give you some context: Back in elementary school, my first friend was a kid named Zachariah (ring a bell?) and we got along REALLY well. So well, he thought that whatever he did to me we would still be friends. So one day in gym he "playfully" CHOKED ME (ring another bell?) and it actually REALL HURT so I told the coach and she told the principle so the principle expelled him (for other reasons including that but I won't get into detail) and I never saw him again.
After he choked me but before he got expelled I moved to another class and sat beside my now-best-friend Gavin. So after he left I still had friends and until 8th grade Zachariah was just a funny "Hey remember this" story. But now the ONE KID I thought I would NEVER SEE AGAIN... is now also one of my best friends. He changed a lot and he's actually a good guy. I will admit I might've overreacted in elementary but I now understand why we got along so quickly: we have been friends for years without us even knowing. (Btw he still doesn't know I'm the kid he choked in elementary and I really don't think he has to know so yea) Report 2points bigfoot POST bigfoot (Submission author) bigfoot Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 3 days ago Oh sh*t this a "how I met my wife/husband" thread.
*L*. (Admit it. You’re judging me - go ahead - I kinda earned it!) We went to school together and were in the same class (being in a 7/8/9 split, him in 9 me in 7) .
