Gang Beasts developer Boneloaf has parted ways with Double Fine and will be self-publishing its indie brawler in the future. With having become a part of Microsoft during the last E3, the future of its "Double Fine Presents" publishing arm was cast into doubt. Many started to speculate that the company would be pulling back on signing other indie games, since publishing while being a part of a major publisher didn't make sense. That speculation was all but confirmed this morning when Gang Beasts developer Boneloaf announced it would be parting ways with Double Fine. As one of the more successful games to come from Presents, this news is a pretty bigger shocker for anyone clinging to hope of Double Fine signing other neat games. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY In a , Boneloaf writes, "With Double Fine Presents winding down due to Double Fine's acquisition by Xbox Game Studios last year, we think it is a good time for Boneloaf to stand on its own... legs and publish Gang Beasts ourselves." Via: Boneloaf The company wishes all the best to Double Fine for the future and thanks the company for the support it gave to Gang Beasts. The time has come for the bird to leave the nest, though, so it will be self-publishing its wacky indie brawler from here on out. This will happen when the game's 1.13 update is released to the public. "Currently we're testing build 1.13, the next release," reads the update. "Build 1.13 is made with Unity 2019.3 and includes a modified version of the wheel stage with support for online game modes and a series of optimizations and fixes for UI, audio, costumes, gameplay, and achievements." Plans are on track for the update to hit Steam next month, which will be when Gang Beasts becomes fully independent. In addition to general bug fixes, new stages and costumes will be getting added to the game. It seems Boneloaf isn't quite done with this title or may have gotten a second wind due to Double Fine Presents shutting down. Either way, this is great news for fans. Source:
