20 DreamWorks Characters Reimagined As College Students

What would DreamWorks characters look like in the modern age? Would they go to college? These fan artists seem to think so! I feel like in its beginning years, DreamWorks was split between trying to be like Disney and trying to be the opposite of Disney. But as the years have passed, this company has started to develop its own niche, proving that Disney isn’t the only big animation company out there that can produce quality content. DreamWorks is definitely more willing to take risks than Disney is, though. Sometimes the risks pay off, and sometimes they fail pretty spectacularly. But you can bet that the movies will be pretty memorable. I still think DreamWorks’ best movie is How to Train Your Dragon (although Megamind is definitely up there). It was such a gorgeous film in general, and while the plot may have been a bit predictable, it was still interesting enough to capture your attention. Plus, the bond between Toothless and Hiccup was so cute. Like Disney, what DreamWorks does well is it creates a wide variety of interesting characters. If you love fun villains, hilarious heroes, or interesting morally grey characters, DreamWorks has it all. For many of DreamWorks’ movies and TV shows, it’s the characters that often make them so interesting. But what would these characters be like in a different setting, such as a college campus? How would some of our favorite DreamWorks characters look as college students? Well, that’s what several fan artists decided to find out! So here are 20 DreamWorks characters that have been reimagined as college students. Think we missed some good ones? Be sure to let us know in the comments section below! THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

He Would Rule The Engineering Department

Via: eleathyra.deviantart.com, viria13.deviantart.com I think Megamind is a criminally underrated movie that should get more praise. Seriously, this movie was both hilarious and touching, poking fun at the whole superhero and supervillain dynamic while also showing ways society can fail a kid who looks different. By the middle of the movie, you can’t help loving this strange but very endearing “villain,” and you just want the poor blue guy to be happy. So how would Megamind be on campus? It’s hard to say. And while these pictures may not necessarily be college setting, it is nice to see Megamind in some clothes that are different from his usual crazy spandex getup. I for one really like seeing him in a suit, and the coat adds a nice touch. But if Megamind did go to college, you can bet he would be studying some type of engineering. The guy is a total genius when it comes to building and inventing things. Though we don’t know if Megamind really needed to study anything since it’s been proven that he’s ridiculously smart. Maybe he’d be the one teaching everybody. Megamind as a professor would be a very interesting idea. You can bet his classes definitely wouldn’t be boring. Art by and .

He Looks Pretty Amazing In Glasses

Via: alexdasmaster.deviantart.com The thing I loved the most about Hiccup was his unrelenting sarcasm. This kid was incredibly sassy and I’m kind of surprised he didn’t get punched more by his peers. But in a world where you were valued more for your strength, Hiccup dared to be a little different and focused on his smarts. The things he does build are really amazing and when everyone actually starts taking him seriously, you can see the change in Berk. Hiccup showed that there’s always a different way to do something and that you should be proud of your strengths. Hiccup would be that student who’s constantly studying and working on new projects. So how would Hiccup fair in a college setting? I think he would love it. The idea of getting to study and learn more about the things that interest him would be a dream come true. I could see him going into engineering or maybe animal science. You can bet he would be that student who’s constantly studying and working on new projects because he’s just so interested in them. Also, considering he’s a bit on the shy side, I don’t see him being a big party animal. Maybe he’d get dragged to a party by his friends, but it’s doubtful he’d stay there for very long. Art by .

This College Isn t Prehistoric Anymore

Via: roma0303.deviantart.com, professionalobsessor.deviantart.com What I found pretty entertaining about the romance between Guy and Eep was that half the time, he was kind of terrified of her. And I can’t blame him; Eep is fiercely strong, unafraid, and pretty aggressive. In fact, when she first meets him, she threatens him and proves she could take him down pretty easily. I’d be a little intimidated too. But I think he likes the fact that she’s crazy strong, and he loves her softer side too. And Eep is taken with Guy’s innovations and resourcefulness. You can tell she’s never met anyone like him, and he’s this source of endless fascination for her. I’m not sure what these two would study at college. Guy would maybe go in an engineering direction. Though he does have that artistic side, so, I could see him getting into the arts. Eep would probably be studying martial arts, or maybe something like environmental science. She’s so curious about the world around her that I could imagine her being fascinated by things like that. Or maybe she’d get into the arts because she met this cute guy who introduced her to the wonderful world of painting and photography. For these two, the sky is the limit and I could see them excelling at anything they put their minds to. Art by and .

They re The Guardians Of Business

Via: monsterbrush.deviantart.com If you had told me I would enjoy a movie that had the Easter Bunny, Santa, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman and, Jack Frost working together, I would’ve thought you were crazy. But then Rise of the Guardians came out, and I was sold. While the idea behind the movie does sound a bit dumb, the execution of the characters was very impressive. I loved the different takes on these famous characters, making them feel new, but still familiar. (Russian mob Santa is probably still my favorite thing.) These characters really made the movie and we can’t help but love them and all their quirks. So how would they be in a college setting? Well, it would probably never be dull. I think technically this picture is more of a business setting, but we’ll take it. Pitch as this cold businessman is actually very fitting, considering his personality. And Jack the intern is pretty adorable. All of the characters fit their personalities pretty well. Nick is intimidating but relaxed, Aster is uptight as usual, Toothiana is scarily efficient but nice, and Sandy just looks like a guy that would give you a hug if you’re having a bad day. I can imagine Jack getting this internship and the Guardians all basically adopt him into their group. Pitch can be that jerk boss that’s always bullying Jack. Art by .

These Three Would Make College Pretty Interesting

Via: wolfpainters.tumblr.com Did you know that DreamWorks did Voltron: Legendary Defender? And the show, despite my initial misgivings, quickly grew to become one of my favorite current shows. The characters are interesting and fun, the plot is intriguing, the animation is gorgeous, and the humor is just spectacular. You never really know what’s going to happen in this series and it’s so fun to find out what the creators have planned next. Shiro, Keith, and Lance, in particular, are a fun group of guys. Lance and Keith constantly have this rivalry going on that can sometimes get out of hand, and it’s usually up to Shiro to help smooth things over between the two. Lance and Keith would compete in everything. And I don’t think things would change much if these guys were in college. I could see Shiro taking up the big brother mantle. He would definitely be the peacemaker, trying to make sure these two idiots don’t eliminate each other. And Lance and Keith would compete in everything. I could see Lance wanting to go into aviation or something similar. Something tells me Keith would be into the arts. Shiro is tricky; he’s that type of person that could be great at pretty much anything. Maybe he’d go into business, maybe he’d go into the military, or maybe he’d study art as well. Art by .

They Are The Cutest Couple

Via: thetrolltree.tumblr.com Did anyone else think Branch and Poppy were a surprisingly cute couple? I know they’re the typical “opposites attract” type of couple where Poppy is upbeat and optimistic and Branch is sarcastic and cynical, but the two actually complement each other pretty well. Branch grounds Poppy into being realistic and pushes her to actually having a plan instead of just jumping in and hoping for the best. And Poppy reminds Branch that it’s okay to hope for things and to have a little optimism once in a while. And these two in a college setting are so cute. I love the designs of the two characters. This art piece was inspired by a pretty popular fanfic that have human Poppy and Branch in a college setting, and it’s rather adorable. Branch would be the guy that gets super flustered when the girl he loves shows affection to him. Considering he usually makes a habit of avoiding people, having someone who likes him and is happy to be around him is probably an unfamiliar feeling. And Poppy in this setting looks amazing. You know she’s still have the pink hair and her style is very much her: bright, colorful and impossible to ignore. Art by .

They Probably Wish They Were Gods Right Now

Via: lorazoronicktrance.deviantart.com Miguel and Tulio’s adventures in El Dorado are basically what happens when a bard and a rogue go on an adventure together. Things got crazy, things got dangerous, and the two managed to escape certain demise by the seat of their pants, all while smooth-talking their way in and out of the fabled city of gold. The dynamic between these two is seriously entertaining; you can tell Miguel and Tulio have been friends for a long time and are very comfortable with each other. Their chemistry is probably what made the movie so entertaining. I could see Tulio being that perpetually exhausted college student working full-time while taking classes and just not caring at all what other people think of him. He’d be that guy who’d be 100% done with everything. Then there’s Miguel who I could see being a more carefree college student that likes to go to all the parties. He would probably be a musician and have a bit of a hipster vibe going, but he wouldn’t be arrogant about it. Tulio would probably study something like business or entrepreneurship. Miguel would totally show up at the pizza place Tulio works at just to bug him. And while Tulio would gripe about it, you know he’d smile about it later. Art by .

They re An Odd But Sweet Family

Via: zerochan.net (Simon Love) Who would’ve thought that a group of crazy penguins would have quite the family dynamic? It’s a slightly deranged and dysfunctional family, but it’s a family all the same. What I like about these guys is how they’re all pretty loyal to each other. Not only do they accept each other’s quirks, but they use them to their full advantage and potential. These penguins may get in some of the craziest situations, but when it comes down to it, they look after each other. I really like this picture because it shows these guys not just as humans, but in a pretty casual setting. They’re not planning or doing something crazy and they’re not doing anything big; they’re just hanging out, playing cards, and chilling. It’s a quiet moment for these guys and I like it. I don’t know if this picture is strictly a college setting, but I’ll accept it. I could see these guys starting their own fraternity. You know they’d be planning the craziest parties and getting into all kinds of trouble. And I could see them getting involved with activist groups; these guys are all about change and fighting the system. And they would all do it together because that’s just how they are.

The Campus Isn t Ready For This Prankster

Via: kadear.tumblr.com It’s actually surprising that Jack Frost wasn’t more messed up than he was in the movie. The guy basically went over 300 years without really talking to or being acknowledged by anybody, both human and spirits. That much solitude would make anyone go crazy. But this does explain his trust issues and his reluctance to get close to people. He may be a mischievous spirit, but he’s also a kid who’s had to be on his own for a long time. So, it’s pretty awesome that he becomes part of the Guardians. He adds a pretty lively element to the group and they all grow to love this crazy and fun spirit. I could see Jack and Hiccup being roommates at a university. I like this picture because it also has Jack interacting with Hiccup, which I think would happen. Really, I could see Jack and Hiccup being roommates at a university, and Jack would be the one dragging Hiccup out of his room to be social for once. He’d probably rope Hiccup into some of his pranks too. And thanks to Hiccup, the pranks would probably be even more complex and spectacular. I’m not sure what Jack would study; I can’t really see him being serious about school. But whatever he’d choose to study, you know he’d be good at it. Art by .

Everyone On Campus Is Slightly Spooked By Her

Via: roma0303.deviantart.com, funkytoes.deviantart.com What I loved about Astrid is that she’s relentlessly tough, but she also has her softer moments too. This is a girl who was dedicated to becoming the best and nothing was going to stand in her way (except for a certain dragon loving Viking). I loved that while Hiccup was crushing hardcore on Astrid, he was also slightly terrified of her. But as we see the two get closer, you can see why Hiccup had a thing for her. She may be tough, but she also has this sense of wonder that’s pretty infectious. Astrid is another tricky one. I’m not sure what she would study at college (maybe business), but you know she’d throw herself wholeheartedly into it. She would be that student that would forget to eat sometimes because she was too busy studying or taking on extra projects. I could see Hiccup coming over and bringing her food because he’s worried about her. And while she may brush him off a bit, she still eats the food and is grudgingly grateful. If the two were at a party, they’d probably gravitate toward each other because I can’t really see Astrid being a huge party person either. It’s not so much that she’s shy; it just wouldn’t really be her thing. Besides, she’s got more important things to worry about. Art by and .

They re The Biggest Tech Nerds On Campus

Via: twitter.com (hiberrybottle) If I had to pick a favorite character from Voltron: Legendary Defender, it would probably be between Hunk and Pidge. These two are the resident geniuses and tech nerds of Voltron, and they’re also the biggest source of sarcasm. (Though the show really needs to do a Hunk background episode. We still don’t know a ton about this guy and it’d be awesome to see what his family is like.) I also like that the two tend to focus on different areas of technology; Pidge is more of a software person and is the resident hacker, while Hunk is more of a hardware guy and the team’s Mr. Fix-it. But when they work together, they are truly unstoppable. They would totally get together to build a super sweet robot. Hunk and Pidge would definitely be engineering buddies at college, though Pidge would probably focus on electrical engineering and computer science while Hunk would focus more on mechanical engineering. I could also see Hunk getting a football scholarship since the guy could totally be football player (or rugby). I bet the two would bicker over which department is better, but they would totally get together to build a super sweet robot. And they would definitely come up with the craziest pranks. They’d also be those college students that hardly ever sleep because they’re too busy working on their latest ideas. Hunk practically lives on coffee, and Pidge would down energy drinks like water.

They re Bros For Life

Via: crazytom666.tumblr.com Marty and Alex from Madagascar are definitely a weird pair of friends. Considering Alex would normally want to eat an animal like Marty, their friendship is a bit strange, and yet, it’s remained pretty strong throughout all three movies. It even survived that moment when Alex does try to eat Marty (that is one forgiving zebra). But you can bet that no matter what happens, these two are there for each other and will support each other in everything. Now that’s true friendship. I have to admit, I really like these human versions of Marty and Alex. You know Alex would be taking selfies of himself, and I love Marty with the black hair with white streaks. They both look pretty relaxed, which is what I imagine they would be like at college. I could see Alex working towards some kind of business degree, and Marty would study something like biology. (Marty would totally want to go on one of those crazy safaris). Or the two could get into the performing arts; they are natural entertainers and they love a crowd. You can bet the two would be roommates, and while they’d probably drive each other nuts sometimes, they’re still the best of friends. Art by .

She d Be The Most Colorful Dentist

Via: skygazer17.deviantart.com, haruyuzuki.deviantart.com Toothiana is definitely my favorite version of the Tooth Fairy and she is so much cooler than other conventional western versions. She’s part human and part hummingbird after all, and her design is just amazing. Toothiana is a very likable character in general, being very passionate about teeth and guarding children’s memories. Also, her not so subtle crush on Jack and his teeth was very entertaining. But don’t mess with this lady; she could take you down in a heartbeat and still have the energy to count more teeth. Tooth is a Guardian after all, and she does take her role seriously. You know that college Toothiana would be going to dental school; there’s just nothing else she’s interested in. Though maybe she’d take an elective in apparel design, or maybe she’d learn a foreign language. I could see her being that student that’s just so excited about everything she’s learning that she has to share it with anyone who would listen. Strangers would probably be a little weirded out by her teeth obsession, but her friends would just smile and nod (they’re used to her antics by now). Just imagine if she met Jack at college. She would totally try to stick her fingers in his mouth to see his teeth and thoroughly freak him out at first. But I think the two would become friends. Art by and .

This Family Is Surprisingly Typical

Via: kemiobsesses.deviantart.com Despite the prehistoric settings, the family dynamic of the Croods could be taken right out of a classic sitcom. You’ve got the protective dad, the understanding mom, the rebellious daughter, the slightly dimwitted son, the wild youngest child, and the snarky grandmother. Sometimes while watching that movie, I felt like I was watching a family from the fifties. While some of these dynamics were pretty predictable, this family was still seriously entertaining to watch. They fought and they argued, but when push came to shove, they were a family. I bet Eep brought Guy home to meet the family and her dad isn’t a big fan. What I like about this picture is that it shows this family in about the right time period for them: the fifties. This may not be strictly a college version, but Guy and Eep look like they could be in college. I bet Eep brought Guy home to meet the family and her dad isn’t a big fan (because of course, no one is good enough for his little girl). The designs of the characters are done pretty well, and Guy definitely looks a bit out of place compared to them. I’m sure this version of Grug would eventually warm up to Guy, especially if he sticks around. Plus, we know how stubborn Eep is. She’d stick with Guy even if her dad is firmly against it. Art by .

They d Make A Pretty Cool Duo

Via: teampossible.deviantart.com Like many friendships, the one between RJ and Verne started out with them hating each other. Well, hate may be a strong word, but they definitely didn’t get along. Verne was suspicious of RJ (and for good reasons) and RJ thought Verne was a stick in the mud who didn’t like to have fun. But after quite a few crazy situations, and a near-demise experience from a bear and a pest control guy, these two soon became like family. The two work together pretty well actually; RJ is the guy who comes up with ideas and has the drive to put them into action, while Verne is the one who makes sure no one gets hurt in the process. They may be different, but they make a pretty awesome team. RJ and Verne as college students would be very interesting (though I’m not sure RJ would be all that interested in school). I don’t know what Verne would study but he’d be a very serious student. RJ would be the friend that drags Verne out of the library and gets him to go have some fun every once in a while. Their outfits in this version would also suggest they may have some ties with a certain teen hero, which would be very interesting to see. Art by .

Okay Their Friendship Is Kind Of Cute

Via: bytesizedoodles.deviantart.com I’ll admit, I’m not that fond of Penny from Mr. Peabody and Sherman. She was a total brat to Sherman and she didn’t really get much of a redemption arc. I get that kids can be jerks to each other, but I think the movie should’ve at least addressed better the fact that Penny was essentially bullying Sherman. But anyway, the two have become friends, which is kind of fun. She does bring a fairly real element to the craziness that Mr. Peabody and Sherman tend to bring. And watching her interact with people in history was pretty fun. I could see these two remaining friends when they go to college. Sherman would probably start out in engineering, but I don’t know if he’d stay in it. And Penny strikes me as the designer kind of girl, or she’d probably be into the arts. (She’d also slay it in a business major). Sherman still looks absolutely adorable with his ridiculously huge glasses, and you can tell Penny thinks so too. I don’t know if these two would get together in the end, but I could see it happening. But please, let’s wait until they’re older before we start shipping them. They’re still just kids in the movie. Art by .

This Gang Of Riders Will Take Over Campus

Via: alli-kun.deviantart.com How to Train Your Dragon had a lot of good things going for it. It had great animation, gorgeous music, a fun story, and very interesting characters. The interaction between Hiccup and his peers was always hilarious to watch, since all of these kids were so unique and interesting. And I like how, in the end, they’re the ones who become the next dragon riders after Hiccup. My favorite two are probably the twins, Ruffnut and Tuffnut. Their constant bickering towards each other was hilarious, but when they start working together they really do become a force to be reckoned with. This group would totally be friends in college. Fishlegs would start up an RPG gaming group, which the others would join, some a bit reluctantly. They would be a weird group of friends, but they’d stick together because they all do care about each other. I love Ruffnut and Tuffnut in the punk style; it suits them so incredibly well. And I like that the artist carried over Hiccup’s prosthetic leg in this version. It’s a nice touch, and I always liked the fact in the movie that while Hiccup survived certain demise, he didn’t come out of it unscathed. Art by .

She s Probably Slapped Him A Few Times

Via: yogurpodrido.deviantart.com, einnif.deviantart.com Ginger and Rocky are the classic odd couple (what is it with movie couples being complete opposites? I get that opposites attract, but this is getting ridiculous). Ginger is very serious and blunt while Rocky is more of a go-with-the-flow kind of guy. And there’s also the fact that he lied to everyone that he could fly in order to save his own skin. But the interactions between these two were always pretty entertaining. They clashed and they bickered, but you could tell there was something going on beneath their insults and barbs. And when things got serious, both were willing to put their lives on the line to protect each other. That’s pretty impressive. Ginger would definitely be a serious student, probably studying something like business, while Rocky would be a music major or something similar. He would be that guy strumming away on his guitar on campus in between classes. And once he met Ginger, he would probably flirt relentlessly with her, which would annoy her to no end. Rocky should be careful or he may get punched by this feisty lady. But I think eventually the two would become friends and something more. Rocky would help Ginger relax and Ginger would inspire Rocky to take his studies more seriously. Art by and .

Everyone On Campus Wants To Date Her

Via: silverfanart.tumblr.com, sseunbean.tumblr.com Allura is a very interesting character in Voltron: Legendary Defender. Nearly all of her people were wiped out by Zarkon, and it’s now up to her to help Voltron become stronger and protect the universe. This is a young lady who has a lot on her shoulders. Sometimes she bears the burden well, and sometimes it becomes too much for her. That’s what I like about her as a character; she’s not perfect and she makes mistakes, but they’re understandable mistakes. She learns from her blunders and has grown to become quite the capable leader, and even she pilots one of the lions sometimes. Allura could definitely pull off the sweet and classy look, but she also looks awesome in the slightly edgier style too. Allura would excel at college. I could see her in a business degree or maybe studying diplomacy and international relations. And I love the two styles these artists gave her. Allura could definitely pull off the sweet and classy look, but she also looks awesome in the slightly edgier style too. Both styles match her personality pretty well. Allura is a very kind and compassionate person, but if you get her mad, you’d better pray for your soul, because she will end you. I know that no matter what Allura would end up studying at college, she would be absolutely amazing at it. You go, girl! Art by and .

She s One Weird Lady

Via: crazytom666.tumblr.com Out of all the Furious Five, I think Tigress is definitely the most intimidating. She’s got strength, power, dexterity, and a bit of a temper to match her skills. You really don’t want to mess with this tiger because she will destroy you. Which makes it even funnier that Po isn’t particularly intimidated by her. I think that’s probably what annoyed Tigress the most about him. Po admired her and wanted to impress her, but he was never really afraid of her, and I can imagine she was not used to that. Tigress at college would definitely be studying something like martial arts. Oddly enough, I could see her taking a couple of horticulture classes too; she seems like she’d like being around and taking care of plants (it could be a way for her to relax). But she would be that scary student that no one would want to talk to because she’s so intimidating. Probably the only people that would talk to her would be the Furious Five and Po. I bet Po would take a couple of martial arts classes just so he could talk to her (and he totally thinks Kung Fu is so cool). Don’t fight it, Tigress, you two are definitely going to become friends.
