Smash Ultimate 5 Three Houses Characters That Would Have Been Better Than Byleth

While Smash fans will always rage at Fire Emblem characters, we can't help but wonder if things would have went differently with these five. It's officially been four days since ' Byleth was revealed as the last Fighters Pass character in the . If you somehow managed to avoid the internet over the past few days, then you might have not seen the to this character reveal. Sure, most of the response towards Byleth was anger over yet another character being added to the roster. And while that may have been the crux of people's disappointment, one might wonder – would this have happened if a different character from Three Houses had been chosen instead? THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY Unfortunately, while we may never know for sure, we can definitely still dream! Here are five Three Houses characters that would've been a better pick for Smash Ultimate than Byleth.

5 Ferdinand

Screenshot Ferdinand von Aegir. Sure, he's become somewhat of a meme in the Three Houses fandom due to his inability to go five seconds without reminding everyone of his full name. But clearly Ferdinand is onto something because he's become one of the most popular characters in the game, with YouTube videos upon videos of people coming up with creative ways to keep his meme-y name going. But beyond the redhead's Internet popularity, he's also a pretty amazing fighter. Yeah, he could just be seen as "another swordsman," but he's also amazing with a lance and ax. Plus, imagine the taunt quotes! Imagine replaying "I am Ferdinand von Aegir" over and over again until your opponents can't stand it. What a surefire way to victory!

4 Edelgard

Screenshot The lovable fascist Edelgard von Hresvelg has been a fan favorite ever since the game's initial release last July. Like a slightly calmer (and better written) Daenerys Targaryen, she stormed her way into players' hearts by starting a national war at only the tender age of 17. What has Byleth accomplished by age 17? Get a teaching job at the Officers Academy? Pssh – Edelgard worked as a full-time student and as the Flame Emperor. Sure, Edelgard is "technically" in Smash now in the background of the Garreg Mach Dining Hall stage, and her signature red outfit is represented through female Byleth's red variation. But wouldn't she look so much cooler as an actual fighter? Just imagine her wielding Amyr, her glowing Hero Relic ax, as her primary weapon across the stage. Sounds pretty epic to me!

3 Claude

Screenshot Everyone loves Claude, and rightly so. He's smart, conniving, pretty easy on the eyes, and probably would be the only one of these characters to actually play Smash if Three Houses were set in the modern-day. Plus, he's the type of guy who's capable of fighting in the moment but is also always looking ten steps ahead, and in a game like Smash, that's pretty much an infallible strategy towards winning. Just like Edelgard, Claude is also "technically" the background of another Three Houses stage, but can you imagine him fighting center stage with his legendary Failnaught? His archery skills would make him an incredible long-distance fighter, but also his sharp and slick moves would help him in close combat as well.

2 Dimitri

Screenshot Oh, Dimitri. The poor prince who's seen and lived through more bad things in just a couple years than any human being should ever see and live through in a lifetime. His upbringing has definitely made him a stone-cold soldier on the battlefield, but his bleak outlook towards life has made him a popular and relatable figure for Millenials and Gen Z kids. Like his fellow house leaders, Dimitri has been unfairly regulated to the background of a Three Houses stage. But with a nickname like the "Boar Prince," you already know that Dimitri would be an amazing fighter. My entire Blue Lions playthrough was giving him Areadbhar, sending him into the middle of the battlefield with multiple soldiers on either side and just watching everything unfold. He not only kills people on the battlefield: he annihilates them with no mercy. What more could you want in a Smash fighter? I can already imagine his taunt quote - "Kill every last one of them!!!" - echoing through the stages.

1 Hilda

Screenshot Let's be honest – Hilda would be an amazing addition to Smash. Yeah, she's from Fire Emblem but she'd be the first character from the franchise who absolutely hates fighting. Maybe even the first character in the entire roster who's so unapologetically open about how lazy she is. And wouldn't that be a great addition to the game? To introduce a character who gamers can fully relate to? But beyond Hilda's blatant laziness, she's literally a monster on the battlefield. Just give her Freikugel and watch her destroy fighters twice her size all while complaining about sweating. You get a strong fighter and humor! What more could you want?
