This generation of Pokémon games will have a huge online component. One of those components will be online battles during which trainers can pit their Pokémon against other players' around the world. Since no one even owns the game yet, it might feel a little early to start thinking strategy for your first competition. They'll be able to do that by heading to Sword and Shield's official website from November 15, 2019, at 00:00 UTC until December 5, 2019, 23:59. The competition will then begin at 00:00 UTC on December 6, 2019. Galar Beginnings will then run until December 8, 2019, at 23:59 UTC, giving trainers an entire weekend to battle other players from around the world. So what are the rules? Sword and Shield's website reads that any and all Pokémon are allowed, apart from "certain special Pokémon" which will not be. All Pokémon entered will be boosted to level 50 for their battles, but return to their actual level once the battle is over. As for when the competition goes live, players will need a paid online subscription to Nintendo Switch Online in order to enter and play. Once live, players will need to open the X menu, select VS, Battle Stadium, then Online Competitions.
