We Hope The Future BMW i8 Looks Like This

Previewing the future design direction of the new 4 Series, the BMW Concept 4 is one of the new star attractions on the German automaker's stand at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show. But it isn't the only BMW concept car being shown off at the event, because the Vision M Next is also flaunting its stunning shape at Frankfurt. The futuristic concept car was unveiled back in July, but this is our first chance to gaze at it in the metal. And if the next-generation i8 sports car looks as striking as this, we're already sold. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz Whereas the Vision iNext previewed how autonomous tech will be integrated into BMW's future flagship SUV, BMW says the Vision M Next "provides a glimpse into the future of sporty driving." Design cues are clearly taken from the i8, from the low-slung, wedge-shaped silhouette and gullwing doors to the closed-off off-kidney. A two-tone orange and metallic silver paint job also help the concept stand out. There are even nods to BMW's past, as the design of the rear window is inspired by the legendary M1 and the BMW roundels inside the taillights hark back to the 1972 Turbo Concept. Inside, the cabin is just as futuristic as the exterior. When the driver approaches, facial recognition technology automatically unlocks the car, and a touch sensor is used to open the gullwing doors. Step inside, and you'll be greeted with a minimalist, driver-focused cabin, with functional elements such as the air vents integrated almost out of sight and foam seats. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz There are also three tiers of driver display systems, including two small screens on the steering wheel, a Curved Glass Display on top of the steering wheel, and an augmented reality head-up display. Whereas the i8 produces a combined 369 horsepower output, the M Next is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and two electric motors that send a combined 600 horsepower to either the front or all four wheels. This setup enables the M Next to rocket to 62 mph from a standstill in just three seconds before hitting a top speed of 186 mph. In electric mode, the M Next provides a driving range of 62 miles. The production version of the M Next is expected to arrive in 2022 and be called the i12 as a replacement for the i8. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz
