Every Game That Got A Perfect 10 10 On Gamespot

We've put together the ultimate list of high-quality games, with every game that scored a perfect 10 on review website Gamespot. Since May 1996, Gamespot has been one of the premier destinations for gaming news and reviews. The sheer amount of coverage they have given to the industry over this time is simply staggering, and there are few publications whose opinions hold as much weight as theirs. In fact, only 15 games have ever been given the honor of scoring a perfect 10 by their reviewers. Whether it be a grand reinvention of a classic series or an indie charmer too good to be ignored, Gamespot is willing to honor earned perfection when it comes along. These are the games that scored a perfect 10 from Gamespot. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Chrono Cross

via.AmazonUK The sequel-but-not to the legendary Chrono Trigger fell short of matching the charm and style of its predecessor, but Gamespot looked past its shortcomings to award the JRPG a perfect score. Praising the game’s battle system, large cast and visual style, Chrono Cross also got a lot of praise for just not being another Final Fantasy game. Chrono Cross was a widely celebrated title upon release and was rightfully honored as a masterpiece of gaming.

Divinity Original Sin II

Celebrated as one of the greatest RPGs of all time after its initial release and showered with multiple awards, Divinity: Original Sin II was praised for firing on all cylinders regarding the story, massive scale, combat mechanics and overall presentation. It is no surprise that it became the most recent recipient of Gamespot’s perfect score while calling it an “instant classic” and “one of the finest games of recent years” in its glowing review.

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Via RetroGameAge Continuing Mario’s cosmic adventures, Super Mario Galaxy 2 added more power-ups, progressively challenging levels and another memorable entry in the Super Mario series. Improving on the original Galaxy in every way, Galaxy 2 hit all the right notes for fans both young and old. Though Mario was no longer stomping around the Mushroom Kingdom, his final adventure in space was one of the best games for the Wii.

Super Mario Odyssey

Via YouTube Usurping Super Mario 64 as the undisputed best game of the series, Super Mario Odyssey took Mario into new territory and didn’t miss a beat. This reinvention of the franchise preserved all the things that made previous Mario games great and put it in the sandbox platformer. Gamespot honored this game with a perfect 10 and many should have seen it coming, especially when another Nintendo franchise had already taken a massive step in reinventing itself with similar success.

Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild

Via techspot.com Breath of the Wild is one of the most beautiful and immersive games of the modern era and elevated the already high standards of The Legend of Zelda series. Link’s survival in the wilderness of Hyrule and beyond was also lauded for its intricate combat system and sense of exploration. Not only is it the most ambitious Zelda game to date but it isn’t outside of the argument that this is the best. The other game in that argument also received a perfect 10 from Gamespot.

Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time

via NME.com It goes without saying that Ocarina of Time is a game so impactful that it often makes the shortlist when discussing the greatest games of all time. A masterpiece upon its release on the Nintendo 64, Ocarina hit all the right notes making a perfect score almost elementary. Though it may seem that Shigeru Miyamoto’s games take up a large portion of perfect honors, another legend of the industry also takes multiple honors in regards to perfection.

Metal Gear Solid IV

Solid Snake’s final adventure in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was one for the ages. Pushing the PlayStation 3 to its absolute limits and giving fans of the Metal Gear series more than what they hoped for, Guns of the Patriots was a fitting end to one of the most celebrated series in gaming. Where Guns of the Patriots saw Snake’s departure, Hideo Kojima’s swan song to the series would also yield a coveted 10 from Gamespot.

Metal Gear Solid V

Guns of the Patriots finished Solid Snake’s story, but The Phantom Pain wraps up the story of Big Boss and puts in motion the events leading to his turn as a villain in the original Metal Gear. Incorporating sandbox gameplay and a unique online experience, The Phantom Pain was an excellent send-off to the series. Though some have qualms on the game’s controversial ending, it doesn’t take away from the immersive experience that stands as one of the best of its generation.

Uncharted 4

Via Sony Interactive The globe-trotting adventures of Nathan Drake were told brilliantly across the previous three Uncharted games, but Naughty Dog saved the best for last in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Brought back into the fold by his long-lost brother, Drake sets out in search of the lost pirate city of Libertatia. Uncharted’s final chapter was a beautiful, action-packed story that wrapped up the series in grand fashion with an effort meritorious of a coveted perfect 10.

Journey

Via: icrewplay.com Perhaps one of the most beautiful and emotional experiences of the medium, indie darling Journey is one of the very few games that could be considered a work of art. As players traverse through a dessert accompanied by a randomly designated partner, the visual adventure is supported by an incredible soundtrack. Journey nearly received a perfect score on its original release for the PlayStation 3 but the PlayStation 4 remaster is considered the definitive version of the game and scored a perfect 10.

The Witcher III Wild Hunt

via NintendoLife.com Adored by fans of the series and critics alike, The Witcher III is an infinitely replayable and stunning experience that makes it the best of the series. A game where no action comes without consequence, Wild Hunt’s intricate systems and presentations made it an easy mark for a perfect 10. The success and continued praise for the game only seems to grow, especially as the live-action adaptation nears its Netflix debut.

Bayonetta 2

Chaos is the name of the game in Bayonetta 2, perhaps one of the most detailed and simplistic hack and slash ever made. A game that doesn’t take a step back to catch its breath, Bayonetta 2 had a ton of extras and additional features that couldn’t be appreciated in just one play through. Raking in yearly awards in 2014 and getting a re-release on the Switch four years later, Bayonetta 2 was recognized with a perfect 10 and as the best game of its genre.

Grand Theft Auto IV

Grand Theft Auto IV featured Liberty City like it had never been seen before. Building on the foundations from the PS2 trilogy and adding multiplayer, GTA IV served as the strongest entry in the legendary series. Whereas the third game in the series reinvented the franchise for a new generation, GTA IV was a reminder that Grand Theft Auto could only get bigger and better.

Soul Calibur

If nothing else, the Sega Dreamcast was the best console for fighting games and Namco’s Soul Calibur was the best of the best. Fighting games are very intricate and scores often vary with user experience, but Soul Calibur was able to deliver on all fronts and is the only fighter reviewed by Gamespot to score a perfect 10. Soul Calibur added plenty of extra content on top of an arcade-perfect port and showed what the Dreamcast was capable of producing.

Tony Hawk s Pro Skater 3

via tonyhawkgames.wikia.com There couldn’t be anything more 2000s than the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series. When THPS 2 missed out on a perfect 10 by a fraction of a point, THPS 3 pushed the series over the edge, adding online play and a refined presentation of its predecessor. While fans of the series still believe the second game to still be the best, there is no denying that THPS 3 improved on those elements and showed how good these games could really be.
