The Brazilian was 27-7 in professional MMA at the time and managed to pull off an outstanding upset, finishing Makhachev in the very first round. The Brazilian was doing well in the UFC and took his organizational record to four wins and one loss after beating the Russian fighter. However, since getting the better of the Russian, Adriano Martins has failed to win a single professional MMA outing. How has Islam Makhachev recovered from his only professional MMA defeat

Since suffering his first setback in professional MMA, Islam Makhachev has remained unbeaten and now fights Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight belt at UFC 280 this weekend. The Russian has fought ten times in the promotion and has won six of these outings via stoppage. Only Chris Wade, Nik Lentz, Arman Tsarukyan and Davi Ramos managed to go the distance against the Dagestani fighter. He is now riding the momentum of a 10-fight win streak going into his first championship bout.
