PRESENTED BY No. 1 Providence at the New England Championship Providence will send nine competitors to the New England Championships on Saturday. The race will be held at Franklin Park in Boston. Seven of the nine competitors will compete in the varsity race for the Friars. IDLE TEAMS No. 5 Oregon No. 6 Georgetown No. 7 Washington No. 8 Stanford No. 9 Arkansas No. 10 Cornell Freshman Keelin Hollowood will join sophomores Kathleen Powell and Katie Sischo as the three underclassmen to compete in the varsity race. Juniors Caile Kohlbrenner and Julie Solimine, along with seniors Elizabeth DeVivo and Jackie McCarthy will lead the underclassmen in the varsity race. Senior Molly McCann and junior Devyn Pryor will represent the Friars in the junior varsity race. "We see this meet as a good opportunity to gain a better idea of who will help fill out the roster for the Big East Championships," head coach Ray Treacy said. Providence's top-eight runners will sit the meet out to prepare for the trip to Wisconsin for the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Oct. 19. No. 2 Florida State at Florida State Invitational Coming off its third consecutive win at the Notre Dame Invitational, Florida State will host a meet Friday. Colleen Quigley and Hannah Walker led the team at the Notre Dame Invitational. The Seminoles will use this week and next to prepare for the road to the championship, with the Pre-Nationals on Oct. 19. No. 3 Arizona at Thunderbird Classic Arizona will make the short trip to Mesa, Ariz., this weekend for the Thunderbird Cross Country Classic. Mesa Community College is hosting the meet and the races will take place through the campus on Saturday. Arizona will compete against Arizona Christian and Arizona State, as well as other non-NCAA competition. Freshman McKenna Gaffney, junior Clea Formaz, junior Daylee Burr, sophomore Molly Callahan and senior Erin Menefee will toe the line for Arizona. No. 4 Duke at Royals Challenge Duke will return to Charlotte, N.C., on Friday to compete in the Royal Cross Country Challenge. The Blue Devils clinched the team championship at last year’s competition, placing all five of the squad’s scoring runners in the top 20. Two members of the Blue Devils, seniors Rebecca Craigie and Colette Whitney, will make their 2013 season debuts on Friday. Craigie did not compete for Duke during the 2012 cross country season, while Whitney participated in one meet last season, placing second at the Duke-NC Central dual meet in a time of 14:52.0. Duke’s third- and fourth-place finishers at the Bull City Classic, junior Colleen Schmidt and senior Dana Morin, will compete in Friday’s meet. Schmidt earned an individual victory at last season’s Three Stripe Red Shirt Invitational and a 60th-place finish at the 2012 ACC Championship meet. Morin recorded a personal best 5,000m time of 18:06.0 at last year’s running of the Royal Cross Country Challenge and placed 11th in the process.
