Unemployed Mitchell Doesn't Miss McNabb Football Outsiders
September 18, 2005, 11:01 am ET Once again, Freddie Mitchell is the voice of reason. He blames Donovan McNabb for his failures as an NFL wide receiver, and also sides with Terrell Owens about his contract issues. If there's a quicker way to lose any remaining credibility, I can't think of it. Comments

He was hoping the Packers would sign him to replace Walker, who is lost for the season with a knee injury. But the Packers have shown no interest." Am I the only one who would take javon walker with a shredded ACL over a completely healthy freddie mitchell? charles, Nope, you're not the only one. Looks like Ted Thompson is on the same bandwagon. Thank god for that. Let's not forget that part of the reason the Chiefs let Mitchell go is that he refused surgery for a knee injury of his own. I've heard one pretty convincing theory as to why Mitchell never produced much. He clearly has good hands, and is totally fearless playing in the slot, and seems to have a knack to get open, so he seems to have the tools to be a good receiver. However, the knock I've heard is that his route-running is terrible; he's rarely open in the right place, which would explain why McNabb rarely threw to him even if open. Who? you know, as an Eagles fan, I'm getting more and more happy they cut him. maybe some gullible NFC rivals of ours will hire him and make our life easier. Jay: That's absolutely right. Mitchell is very good at getting open, which is why he often times comes up on 3rd or 4th down. But he's not too bright (which would explain a lot of his media hijinks) - he'll routinely jump up and around to try to get a QBs attention when he thinks he's open. He's often wrong - which is bad, because if the QB believes him, that's at best, a wasted play, and at worst, an interception, and even if the QB doesn't, then he's likely to have his attention drawn. Basically, he's not even a good 3rd receiver. He'd make a decent 4th or 5th receiver, but he'd never accept that kind of money, and besides, you'd usually prefer to have a 4th or 5th receiver that can develop. I'm loving FredEx this offseason. First he gets cut from Philadelphia (who is in the middle of a dispute with Owens and therefore has the worst WR corps in the league). Then he gets signed and cut by the Chiefs, who probably have the second worst WR corps in the league. All he needs to complete the deal is a failed stint with the Falcons. Why are we still listening to what this guy has to say? Hey, Freddie Mitchell- You forgot my fries. And I told you I wanted to supersize the order. I think he should follow Tara Reid around on her European vacation, that would be sweet television. Somewhere, just now, Rodney Harrison was disrespected by this article.
