Key Findings

The mail surveys find that AARP members...
believe it's important to have outdoor spaces and buildings in their community that allow access for people of different physical abilities. mostly drive themselves to get around their community, and many believe it's important to have well-designed, safe streets that support all users. believe having good community health care facilities, services and providers are important. want to have social activities and volunteer opportunities within their community. want to work for as long as possible and believe it's important to have community supports that will enable them to do so.

This mail survey was conducted in October and December 2014. A simple random sample of AARP members were selected from AARP’s membership database. A total of 990 completed surveys were returned by the cutoff date of November 26, yielding an overall response rate of 24.8 percent. Survey responses were weighted to reflect that actual distribution of age and gender for the population of AARP members in Nassau County, the Town of North Hempstead and the Village of Great Neck Plaza.
