Two Food Banks Benefit From Drive to End Hunger

Two South Carolina food banks, Low Country Food Bank and Harvest Hope Food Bank have each received a donation of $10,000 from Drive to End Hunger, an initiative of AARP and AARP Foundation to help the millions of older Americans who are facing hunger across the United States. AARP South Carolina state director Jane Wiley made the two presentations during the recent SHOWTIME 500 in Darlington.

As the primary sponsor of Jeff Gordon’s No. 24 Chevrolet, for the next three years Drive to End Hunger is engaging the NASCAR fan base, corporations and charitable organizations via a text-to-donate program; activation at racetracks across the country; further research on the causes and consequences of hunger in older Americans; and an innovative national grant program that will provide resources to address the problem at a local level. Drive to End Hunger is AARP and AARP Foundation’s multi-year commitment to ending hunger for older Americans, nearly six million of whom do not have enough to eat every day.

“AARP is pleased to work with the Low Country Food Bank and Harvest Hope Food Bank to shed light on the issue and help address older adult hunger,” said Jane Wiley, AARP SC state director. “This is just a beginning of what we can accomplish when we harness the power of like-minded organizations to solve a problem that millions of older Americans face every day.”
