Challenge Your Chapters with Create the Good
Challenge Your Chapters with Create the Good
New and exciting possibilities are in development to “create the good” across the Commonwealth.
Right now, AARP Pennsylvania in collaboration with local AARP Chapters will initiate a “Chapter Challenge,” to help Create the Good in your community.
Here are two ways that your local AARP chapter can help address the effects of poverty on families:
A School Supply Drive— for donation to needy children who will otherwise go to school without the necessary materials. You may team up with existing drives through a local school supply retailer or even a school itself. This effort could serve as your chapter Day of Service activity. Day of Service this year is September 14, 2010.
A Food Collection Drive—This community activity works for any size group and requires little or no experience to have a big impact on families and seniors in need. This activity might be another good opportunity for the chapter’s Day of Service effort.
We encourage your AARP chapter to make a significant difference in your community. As an incentive, we are offering $100 “best in class” prizes to ten chapters (five for school supply drives and five for food collection drives) who achieve stellar results. The prizes will be awarded in the fall. Project results will be evaluated using these criteria:
Number of chapter members involved
External partnerships developed
Creativity of project
Quantity of items collected/donated
To participate in this “Chapter Challenge,” and for further information please contact David Kalinoski in the AARP Pennsylvania Office toll free at 1-866-389-5654 or email .

Challenge Your Chapters with Create the Good
AARP launched its Create The Good initiative nationally last year to encourage boomers and older Americans to make a difference in their communities and help solve pressing local problems. Create The Good expands on traditional ways to volunteer by connecting people with simple but meaningful activities, time-flexible opportunities, and a wide variety of areas of interest.New and exciting possibilities are in development to “create the good” across the Commonwealth.
