“As the 2010 races gear up, we must hear from the candidates about where they stand on key issues affecting Nebraskans age 50 and over,” said AARP Nebraska Advocacy Director Mark Intermill. “Better yet, we must hear about their vision and be assured of their commitment to define the State of Nebraska as a leader in aging policy.”
Candidates for the Nebraska Legislature are running in 24 legislative districts. AARP Nebraska will inform voters about their responses to the following questions:
Please explain your approach to the state budget and taxes, specifically which types of expenditures and/or revenues do you believe should be increased or reduced?
What steps would you take to ensure that Nebraska residents have choices to remain in their homes and communities as they age? Do you support or oppose making the long-term care system in Nebraska more responsive to the needs and preferences of Nebraska residents?
How would you ensure that there is strong consumer involvement in the design and operation of a Health Insurance Exchange in our state? What steps would you take to make sure the Health Insurance Exchange selects consumer-friendly products?
Voters will elect State Senators in Legislative Districts 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46 and 48. AARP needs volunteers to ask the candidates questions at events and help organize or participate in candidate roundtable interviews across the state. AARP Nebraska will launch a vigorous nonpartisan voter education effort around this year’s state legislative races.
