AARP Foundation Creates Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund

AARP and AARP Foundation are matching, dollar for dollar, contributions up to $1 million for the , which will help victims — especially those 50 and older — across Texas and Louisiana. Through early Tuesday, at least 10 people had been killed and thousands displaced by flooding. “The devastation and loss in Houston and surrounding areas is staggering, especially when the hardest hit are those who were already struggling to make ends meet. In many cases, low-income older adults have neither the financial resources nor the ability to escape the catastrophe,” said AARP Foundation President Lisa Ryerson. All donations — which are 100 percent tax deductible — will go to organizations providing support to disaster victims. “AARP members respond quickly to help those in need, and we know they will again,’’ Ryerson said. “As a trusted organization, we also know that every dollar counts.
