Beyond 50 A View of Economic Security in the States

Table of Contents: When Beyond 50: A Report to the Nation on Economic Security was published in May 2001 as the first in a planned series of annual AARP reports on the status of midlife and older Americans, it provided readers with an in-depth look at the well-being of more than one-quarter of the U.S. population – the 76 million people age 50 and older in 2000. For most of the measures of well-being included in that report, there are important differences among the states. In this AARP Public Policy Institute supplement to Beyond 50, detailed statistics for the age 50+ population in each of the 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, are analyzed by Sunhwa Lee, Ph.D. and Lois Shaw, Ph.D. with Amy LeMar and Vanessa Melamede, all of the Institute for Women's Policy Research.
