YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Life These are the top five most expensive UK cities to live in and London didn’ t make the list By You Magazine - August 12, 2021 We’re all aware that prices in the capital city sure aren’t cheap — in fact, London has long been one of the most notably expensive places to live thanks to its surging housing prices and general cost of living. But a new study by Halifax has revealed that London is no longer even in the top five most expensive UK cities to live in in 2021. London / Getty Images Their research showed that interestingly, seven cities across the UK outweighed London in terms of cost, from Oxford to Brighton and Hove. This news comes after a year of mass migration out of the city to coastal and rural areas during the coronavirus pandemic. In turn, this has led to bumped up house prices in other areas of the country; in fact, Search Acumen’s recent analysis of sales in the first five months of 2021 showed that a little over half of the 4,881 homes sold for £1m or more in England and Wales were outside of London. Winchester / Getty Images While London slipped outside the top five least affordable cities for the first time in six years, Winchester topped the list this year. Calculated by assessing housing costs in relation to people’s average earnings, the 20 least affordable also included Bath, Chichester, and Truro in the top five. You can see the full list here, which features the average house cost per city, followed by the average salary. 1. Winchester, South East, 14.0, £630,432, £45,059 2.
