Channel 4 The hit baking show will return to Channel 4 for its second season later this month on 28th August, following its controversial move from the BBC. Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig will return as hosts, while Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith will be judging the new batch of bakers. So, what does this year’s line-up look like? With the new series just one week away, Channel 4 have revealed the new bakers and this time, we’ve got everything from a techno DJ to a research scientist – all of whom will battle it out to be crowed Britian’s greatest baker. Meet the contestants Rahul, 30, research scientist Channel 4 Born in India, Rahul moved to the UK at the age of 23 after receiving a university scholarship.He now lives in Rotterdam and hopes his East-meets-West style of cooking will win over the judges. Kim-Joy, 27, mental health specialist Channel 4 Kim-Joy has an English mother and Malaysian-Chinese father but was born in Belgium. She now lives in Leeds and says her heritage is reflected in her baking. She hopes the show will help boost her confidence. Luke, 30, civil servant/house and techno DJ Channel 4 Born and raised in Sheffield, Luke has been cooking since he was just 10 years old. He says he wants to put those 20 years of experience to good use, and where better than the Bake Off tent? Ruby, 29, project manager Channel 4 Ruby grew up in India but now lives in London. She says she is inspired by her mother’s Indian sweets and often makes cakes, pastries and “boozy treats” for her friends and family. Jon, 47, blood courier Channel 4 Jon is a father of four from Newport in Wales and loves baking after a long day at work. ‘I bake as often as I can, several times a week, mainly in the day while my wife and children are at school as I get some peace that way! The tent is far easier than my kitchen,’ he says. Imelda, 33, countryside recreation officer Channel 4 Imelda is from County Tyrone in Northern Ireland and says her mother taught her how to cook. Dan, 36, full-time parent Channel 4 Dan applied to the show to get a bit of time for himself, saying: ‘I’ve been at home looking after the kids for the last six years, so it was a chance to do something for myself. With my youngest starting school, I’m now ready to rejoin the world of adults.’ Antony, 30, banker Channel 4 Londoner Anthony describes himself as a ‘Bollywood Baker’ and learnt to Bake with his father. ‘My friends back home in India will be really surprised,’ he says. ‘They have known me to be a singer in a choir, a two-piece band but never as a baker, so it will be interesting to see their reaction.’ Karen, 60, in-store sampling assistant Channel 4 Karen fell in love with baking after buying a house in France 15 years ago. ‘I want to be more free and flamboyant. I really want to do this for me and I thought it was the right time to step up and have fun,’ she says. Her daughter encouraged her to apply for the show. Briony, 33, full-time parent Channel 4 The modern woman she is, Briony from Bristol learnt her baking skills on YouTube. Terry, 56, retired Channel 4 A retired air steward, Terry will be bringing products from his own microbrewery and allotment to the competition. He’s hoping they give him a winning edge. Manon, 26, software project manager Channel 4 Having moved from France to England.
