YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Fashion The 2020 sunglasses trends you’ re about to see everywhere By You Magazine - January 6, 2020 You might associate them with beach getaways and sunny city breaks, but in our books, sunglasses are a all-season staple in any wardrobe. Whether they’re paired with floaty dresses or chunky knits, shades always make an outfit look that little bit chicer. And as we enter a new year (make that a new decade), we’re planning to expand our collections even further. We may not have a crystal ball, but we do have industry experts, street style inspo and trend reports to help us plan our purchases for the months ahead, so here are the shapes and colours we’ll be investing in to see us through 2020 in style. After all, from aviators to cat-eyes, classic black to quirky brights, the thrill of great new frames never gets old. Modern retro Getty Images According to Massimo Renon, the CEO of independent eyewear company Marcolin, vintage with a twist will be all the rage in 2020. ‘Starting from classic or vintage shapes, designers interpret them in a new modern and contemporary way, always looking at brands’ DNA and iconic features,’ he explains. GUESS do a great line in modern retro, or look to affordable celeb favourite brand (spotted on the likes of Meghan Markle) for modern interpretations of those nostalgic Old Hollywood shapes. Cat’s Eye Sunglasses, £135, Guess Le Specs Air Heart Cat-Eye Acetate and Gold-Tone Sunglasses, £45, Net-A-Porter Angular Cat Eye Sunglasses, £23, & Other Stories Blue hues Getty Images Pantone just named Classic Blue as its colour of the year for 2020, and Renon agreed that the shade looks to be a major hit this year. ‘The palette of blues is used for casual designs and the purist tone of this colour confirms blue’s evolution as a statement fashion hue,’ he explains. ‘Blue’s transition from a core color to a fashion one evolves in a softer way for this new season.’ Not into a blue frame? Go for tinted lenses for a quirky take on the trend. Matilda Sunglasses in Ocean Fade, £140, Finlay London High Key Rimless Sunglasses, £50, Quay Australia Oversized 70’s Square Sunglasses, £12, ASOS 90s vibes Getty Images When Pinterest revealed its Pinterest 100 report at the end of last year, pinpointing the big themes to look out for in 2020, there was one obvious thread that tied them all together – the 90s. From streetwear to grunge, lip gloss to hair clips, the decade is having a resurgence, and eyewear is no exception. Not only does this inform the ongoing trend for long, narrow frames, it means coloured and hologram lenses, and ovals that flatter every face shape.
