YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity This series has been named the best true crime documentary of all time By You Magazine - February 19, 2019 True crime documentaries have been released in abundance recently, with a new gripping real-life tale being dropped on streaming services almost every month. From Netflix hits like Making A Murderer or the more recent release of Conversations With A Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, to Amazon Prime’s Lorena, the phenomenon is more popular than ever. But which true crime docu-series is the best of all time? Getty Images Well, according to Ranker, that title belongs to HBO’s The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst. The dark miniseries, produced by Andrew Jarecki, follows the life of New York real estate heir Robert Durst who was accused of the murder of his wife Kathie, following her disappearance in in 1982, the brutal execution style death of writer Susan Berman in 2000, and the dismemberment of his next door neighbour Morris Black in 2001. Durst was suspected to be involved in the first two cases but confessed to the third case, though he argued self defence and was acquitted at trial. Like most other true crime docuseries, The Jinx is made up of existing media footage, police footage, security footage and archived interviews, along with recent interviews and reenactments. It unveils private prison recordings, and thousands of pages of formerly hidden documents but most significantly, it features lengthy interview clips with Robert Durst himself. The series was closely followed by Netflix’s Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father which came in at second place on the Ranker list. For those who haven’t had a chance to binge it yet, the documentary was created by Kurt Kuenne, whose close friend Andrew Bagby was murdered shortly after he ended a relationship with Shirley Jane Turner. This is just one of many true crime documentaries on Netflix. In fact, the streaming service recently released a list of must watch true crime docs available on their site, including everything from Shadow of Truth, Evil Genius and The Confession Tapes, to The Keepers, Wild Wild Country and Captive for 18 Years: The Jaycee Lee Story.
