YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity Netflix is working on a new drama based on this Pulitzer Prize-winning article By You Magazine - February 6, 2019 Netflix is working on a new drama adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning article An Unbelievable Story of Rape by The Marshall Project and ProPublica. The eight-part series is based on the true story of a teenage girl who was charged with lying about rape. Like the article, it will follow an 18-year-old named Marie, who reported to the police that she had been raped in her apartment. Rex Features However, Marie was not only disbelieved by her then-foster mother, but by the police, who confronted her with the inconsistencies in her story. This led to Marie claiming that the whole thing may have been a dream, before telling the authorities that she had made it up. Shortly after, she was charged with filing a false report and accepted a plea deal. However, the story didn’t end there. Two female detectives ended up unravelling the real truth as they crossed paths on a mutual pursuit to hunt down a possible serial rapist. Rex Features The shocking story, which also features in This American Life’s three-part podcast, Anatomy of Life, is now getting an on-screen adaptation and Netflix have already announced their key cast members. Wanderlust‘s Toni Collette and Nurse Jackie star, and now Emmy-winner Merritt Wever will play the two female detectives, while Kaitlyn Dever, who recently starred in Beautiful Boy alongside Timothée Chalamet, has been given the role of teenage survivor Marie. Rex Features Vanessa Bell Calloway and Danielle Macdonald, who starred in Netflix movie Dumplin’ alongside Jennifer Aniston have also been cast in the upcoming drama. Unbelievable was written by Erin Brockovich’s Susannah Grant and will have American journalist Katie Couric as executive producer. No air date has been confirmed for the series yet but we do know that the series will be available on Netflix later this year.
