YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Life This new WhatsApp feature will streamline group chats By Georgia Green - May 9, 2022 Many of us have a love-hate relationship with WhatsApp. For most of us, it’s our go-to instant messaging platform for group chats. Even the royal family aren’t exempt from the group WhatsApp chats – just earlier this year Mike Tindall gave a sneak peak inside the royal family WhatsApp groups. While these multi-person conversations are super handy when it comes to organising group events or just keeping in touch with friends and family, the sheer volume of messages can amount to can be a huge time-suck and can even cause anxiety. Alamy If any of that rings true for you, then you’ll be particularly excited about the new WhatsApp feature that has just been rolled out. The latest addition to the app allows users to now apply ’emoji reactions’ to other’s messages, thus hopefully eliminating some of the noise created by endless messages in group chats. ‘We’re excited to share that emoji reactions are now available on the latest version of the app,’ reads a recent post on WhatsApp’s blog. ‘Reactions are fun, fast, and they reduce overload in groups too. We’ll continue improving them by adding an even broader range of expressions in the future.’ Alamy Currently, WhatsApp has introduced a fairly limited range of six emoji reactions, including: Thumbs up Red heart Face with tears of joy Face with open mouth Crying face Praying hands We’re excited to announce that reactions are coming to WhatsApp starting with and with all emojis and skin-tones to come. pic.twitter.com/086JnVS5Ey - Will Cathcart (@wcathcart) April 14, 2022 They have promised to introduce more emojis in time, in a pledge to ‘continue improving them by adding an even broader range of expressions in the future.’ Head of WhatsApp Will Cathcart took to Twitter to also promise that we can soon expect ‘all skin tones’ to be available within the new WhatsApp feature. We’re certainly welcoming this change with open arms and looking forward to our group chats becoming a bit less hectic and a little quieter.
