The hit BBC show appeared on our screens for a festive special in December and naturally, it became a huge success, with over 18.5million people tuning in. BBC/GS TV Productions Ltd/Tom Jackson However, as viewers will remember the episode (which had us all talking on Twitter, making Gavin & Stacey a top trend) ended on a major cliffhanger which could only mean one thing – there has to be more. And now, it looks like the show’s creators have hinted at a new series. Speaking to Metro, James Corden and Ruth Jones said: ‘It’s mind-blowing that so many people watched our show – we still can’t get our heads around it, what a massive compliment. We are indebted to the BBC for their incredible support but most importantly to those 18.5 million viewers for watching. Well judging by a comment from Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content, the broadcaster is on board for a new season too. ‘These incredible viewing figures demonstrate the power of British comedy and the love for Gavin and Stacey. I want to thank James and Ruth for this gem and like everyone I’m longing to find out what happens next.’ Sounds promising to us! However, it soon became very apparent that Sonia just didn’t fit in and as soon she headed home, Nessa took to the opportunity to confess her love for Smithy and in a shock twist, proposed to him. The episode then ended abruptly before we got to hear Smithy’s response. Fingers crossed that we get the happy ending we’re all hoping for!
