The chequerboard interiors trend, or checkerboard for our friends across the pond, is well and truly here, splattering everything from bedspreads and bath mats to coasters and cushions with the uniformly square print. Originating from the chequerboard, an old-fashioned board draughts or checkers is played on, similar to chess, the print has come and gone in and out of style for as long as we can remember. Traditionally black and white, you’ll definitely have spotted the print on tiles in bathrooms, hotel lobbies and new swanky restaurants. But, of course, it’s now back again, and there are easier ways to bring the design into your home than re-tiling your floors. Sleek and sophisticated in its monochrome design, the checkerboard print works with a whole range of interior design styles from eclectic to minimalist modern. While we aren’t encouraging you to renovate your whole home, the tiling certainly does look lovely. Working here with another major interior trend, rattan furniture, you clearly don’t have to be only in one camp when it comes to style choice. Of course, we can’t forget about the bathroom, and one of the most purse-friendly new home buys is always a bath mat. You may be surprised how often you need to change a bath mat, so if yours has been in your life longer than your kids have, it may be time to swap it out. And with new colourful takes on the traditionally monochrome design, it’s a quick and easy way to add a pop of colour back into the room. 10 checkerboard interiors buys Klevering black small check candle, £10, Liberty Mackenzie Childs royal check charger/ plate, £71, Amara Pink and white check 100% cotton non-slip bath mat, £9.99, Homescapes Square check cushion, £30 (was £42), Trouva Coconut fibre doormat, £12.99, H&M Klevering checked wooden mirror, £40, Selfridges Ingersoll 80cm wide tub chair, £469.99, Wayfair Set of four pink check coasters, £30, Liberty Patterned double duvet cover set, £39.99, H&M Checkerboard 5×7 rug, £149, Urban Outfitters RELATED ARTICLESMORE FROM AUTHOR Aldi s pumpkin-shaped casserole dish is all we want for Halloween 7 of the best money-saving kitchen gadgets to invest in this winter Aldi has restocked miniature velvet chairs and sofas for your dog DON' T MISS Fiona Bruce Sometimes I struggle not to cry November 14, 2021 17 beautiful 2021 diaries to help you to look forward to December 4, 2020 Why women leave men for women What’ s fuelling the rise of April 28, 2019 Hollywood veteran Laura Linney on plastic surgery friendship and her stellar July 3, 2017 You can shop the khaki jumpsuit from Holly Willoughby’ s new M& S July 17, 2019 The secrets and lies behind this happy family photo April 11, 2021 It’ s cocktail hour Olly Smith’ s cocktail recipes and Eleanor Maidment s canapé November 14, 2021 BBC One has revealed its Christmas TV schedule and there’ s lots December 2, 2020 YOU Beauty Box August Reviews August 1, 2017 Rome has been named the cheapest major city to visit in August 7, 2019 Popular CategoriesFood2704Life2496Fashion2240Beauty1738Celebrity1261Interiors684 Sign up for YOUMail Thanks for subscribing Please check your email to confirm (If you don't see the email, check the spam box) Fashion Beauty Celebrity Life Food Privacy & Cookies T&C Copyright 2022 - YOU Magazine.
