While the feel of the sun’s rays hitting your skin may be lovely, it also serves as a reminder that it’s time to change up your skincare regime for the new season. We’re not talking a drastic overhaul – you don’t need to chuck out every beauty product you own and start again – but a few tweaks here and there will ensure your routine is working well for you as the weather heats up. XYZ Products to have in your spring skincare kit Sun protection Never tell a beauty editor that you don’t wear SPF skincare every day – they will keel over in horror. Okay, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration, but it’s certainly true that wearing SPF is one of the best ways to prevent the signs of ageing (not to mention protecting yourself from skin cancer). While SPF combined with other products, such as your moisturiser or foundation, is a good start, experts say a standalone sun protection product is best of all. We love La Roche-Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid, £18, as a solid base product and La Roche-Posay Anthelios Sun Protection Face Mist, £14, for topping up over make up. Both are factor 50 sun cream, provide UVA and UVB protection and are available at Boots. A great cleanser While some of us might choose to wear a lighter foundation in spring, others will be out and about in full party or festival make up. Even if you’re going make up-free, you’ll still need to do a thorough cleanse at night to wash of the SPF, pollen and pollution from the day. Two of our beauty team’s favourite cleansers are The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser, £5.50, which removes makeup and impurities while retaining the skin’s natural moisture, and CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, £15, which has over 1,200 five-star reviews on the Boots website. A brightening exfoliator If the word ‘exfoliate’ conjures up visions of attacking the skin with grainy scrubs in your mind, then we have good news: exfoliants have come a long way. Now, it’s all about acids – another word you don’t need to fear, because we’re talking about skin-friendly acids, designed to slough off dead skin cells and reduce patchiness, dullness and breakouts. If glowing skin is on your spring wishlist, try No7 Radiance+ Vitamin C Glow Toner, £11.65 or PIXI Glow Tonic, £12. A refreshing spray Picture the scene: you’ve just finished a long, sweaty commute or car journey, you’re feeling hot and bothered, and the make up you applied carefully at home is now looking worse for wear. This is when a multi-use spray like Avene Thermal Spring Water Spray, £13, can work wonders. The soothing, spray will refresh, calm and soften skin, as well as reviving make up. A vitamin C serum It’s a good idea to apply a vitamin C serum in the morning to help fend off environmental damage during the day.
