One conversation between one of the Party at the Palace performers and Kate Middleton revealed some interesting news about royal viewing habits, and a show that the Cambridges and their relatives love to watch. REX And that show? The Eurovision Song Contest. Kate Middleton was chatting candidly with Sam Ryder, who achieved great success for the UK, after coming second in this year’s Eurovision. He wrote his song, Space Man, alone in his garden shed during lockdown and posted it to TikTok. As such, he earned himself a well-deserved spot in the Party at the Palace line-up, and played his tune for the crowds on the Mall. Afterwards, he told People that he spent some time inside Buckingham Palace, where he was spontaneously introduced to the Duchess of Cambridge. REX ‘I said “hello” to Kate, and she was asking about the performance. She is so kind and said that the royal family had all been supporting me for a while and all throughout Eurovision. Then Princess Beatrice came over and had a chat with us too.’ He continued: ‘She was just so lovely and encouraging and supporting. And just generous with her kindness.’ ‘What I gather is a lot of the members of the royal family had seen Eurovision and were supporting my song from home, which means a lot.’ We don’t blame them, Eurovision is the highlight of the TV calendar for so many of us, and it’s good to know it’s the royals favourite TV show, too. REX Ryder added: ‘It was incredible, and it was so inspiring to get the encouragement from the royal family because they stand for such similar themes that Eurovision celebrates as well, like unity, togetherness and solidarity. And that coming together of people in a world that seems to find ways of disconnecting us at any given time.’ The Eurovision singer even said that Kate had a little joke with him about his sparkly Union Jack jumpsuit he wore for his performance. ‘I was wearing my stage suit and me and Kate were joking that someone would have to hoover up a few of my stones the next morning because they’d probably be falling off as I was walking around.’ Who knew Eurovision had even reach the royals?
