YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity This is why you won’ t see Meghan Markle on The Crown By You Magazine - August 20, 2020 While the fifth season of The Crown won’t be hitting our TV screens until 2022 (series four is due to air this winter on Netflix), fans of the show are already getting excited for season five’s portrayal of Princess Diana’s split from Prince Charles. But if you’re hoping for more contemporary royal tales from The Crown’s fifth and final season, you may be disappointed. Rex Features Peter Morgan, creator and screenwriter of the show, has revealed that Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton won’t be portrayed in future seasons due to his ’20-year rule’, which helps ensure historical accuracy. ‘Meghan and Harry are in the middle of their journey, and I don’t know what their journey is or how it will end,’ Morgan told Hollywood Reporter. ‘I sort of have in my head a 20-year rule. That is enough time and enough distance to really understand something, to understand its role, to understand its position, to understand its relevance.’ ‘Often things that appear absolutely wildly important today are instantly forgotten, and other things have a habit of sticking around and proving to be historically very relevant and long-lasting.’ View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Crown (@thecrownnetflix) He continued: ‘I don’t know where in the scheme of things Prince Andrew or indeed Meghan Markle or Harry will ever appear. We won’t know, and you need time to stop something being journalistic. ‘There’ve been wives that have been married into the Royal Family that have felt unwelcome and that they don’t fit in. So, there are plenty of stories to tell without telling the story of Harry and Meghan.’ Getty Images There’s still plenty to look forward to from The Crown’s final season. Earlier this week, it was revealed that Elizabeth Debicki, 29, will play the final Princess Diana, taking over from season four’s Emma Corrin. Oscar-nominee Imelda Staunton, 64, will play Queen Elizabeth (replacing Olivia Colman), Lesley Manville will play Princess Margaret after Helena Bonham-Carter, and Jonathan Pryce will star as Prince Philip. We can’t wait!
