It sounds like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will get a battle royale mode Cross the line. News by Wesley Yin-Poole Deputy Editorial Director Updated on 8 Aug 2019 16 comments Activision has yet to announce a battle royale mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but comments by a developer at Infinity Ward certainly suggest such a thing is coming. Game Informer's Ben Hanson sat down with Infinity Ward's studio art director Joel Emslie to ask 129 rapid fire questions about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and one of them was about battle royale. Here's the exchange (skip to the three minutes mark): Hanson: Will there be a battle royale mode in this game? Emslie: [Pause] We'll have to wait and see. Hanson: Would you like there to be a battle royale mode in this game? Emslie: I personally like that game mode. There's a smirk on Emslie's face throughout - no needle here. And it's not hard to read between the lines. Of course, a battle royale mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare would make a lot of sense given the genre is top of the gaming tree right now and last year's Call of Duty, Black Ops 4, had a well-received battle royale mode. The question is how Modern Warfare's battle royale will be delivered. Will it come as part of the full game, as Blackout did with Black Ops 4, at launch? Will it arrive later? Will it be standalone? If so, will it be free? What we do know is Modern Warfare's traditional multiplayer includes modes designed for player counts more akin to Battlefield than Call of Duty. Ground War is a 64-player mode on a big map. Infinity Ward told Eurogamer recently it's got traditional multiplayer running internally for over 100 players. Clearly, the groundwork is being laid for a much bigger Call of Duty in 2019. Perhaps even a massive one.
