Ochoa, JD, senior vice president of Advancement and chief advancement officer at Cedars-Sinai, discussing the Cedars-Sinai Board of Governors 50th Anniversary Celebration at SoFi Stadium, where Los Angeles Rams player Andrew Whitworth was honored earlier this month. The Cedars-Sinai Board of Governors is a community of philanthropic leaders who have become a significant fundraising group at Cedars-Sinai. They recognized Whitworth with the Visionary Award for his philanthropic work and commitment to the Los Angeles community, where he has funded efforts that support area youth and families. The event was “not your traditional black-tie gala,” Ochoa told Spectrum News 1. “The Board of Governors really wanted to do something different … something that A, felt celebratory, B, felt really relevant in today’s times and C, really made the most of all the relationships that Cedars-Sinai has in the region.” The celebration in early August included activities from the Rams’ field experience, such as throwing footballs, kicking field goals, and running drills on the field at SoFi Stadium, plus family-friendly activities like bounce houses and a live auction. Proceeds raised from the event will benefit the Cedars-Sinai Board of Governors Innovation Center, which brings together researchers and clinicians to develop early-detection protocols and therapies. "They've really become, over these last 50 years, our premiere fundraising and leadership development group at Cedars-Sinai," Ochoa told Spectrum News 1, talking about the Cedars-Sinai Board of Governors. "Since [1971], they have raised over $170 million." All COVID-19 guidelines were followed at the event, which was delayed a year by the pandemic. But it was worth the wait. “A 50th celebration doesn’t come along every day,” Ochoa told Spectrum News 1. Click here to read the complete article from Spectrum News 1.
