Diese Monographie gibt auf der Grundlage umfangreicher eigener Untersuchungen einen aktuellen Überblick über die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der Immunhistochemie in der klinischen und experimentellen Neuroonkologie. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Bedeutung des Nachweises von Differenzierungsmarkern und Proliferations-assoziierten Antigenen für die Differentialdiagnostik und das Tumorgrading der Tumoren des Nervensystems. Daneben werden aber auch neue Resultate zum Nachweis von Onkoproteinen, Wachstumsfaktoren und Rezeptoren sowie Befunde an experimentell induzierten Tumoren der Ratte vorgestellt.
