New McLaren Movie Will Celebrate The Life Of Its Ambitious Founder

Car movies don't always have to be high-octane action fests, though there are plenty of those to look forward to this year. Motorsport movies can be just as riveting, if not more so since they're often based on true events. Ron Howard's Rush documented the intense rivalry between F1 legends James Hunt and Niki Lauda, while Senna chronicled the tragic story of one of the greatest racing drivers who ever lived. Now, a new McLaren movie dedicated to the company's founder, Bruce McLaren, is racing into theaters. Simply titled 'McLaren,' the feature film will tell the story of how Bruce McLaren shot to fame when he came out of nowhere and established a racing team to take on established manufacturers, before it became the renowned and successful car manufacturer it is today. Judging from the trailer, McLaren will have more in common with Senna than Rush, comprising of archival footage and interviews with racing legends such as Mario Andretti, Emerson Fittipaldi, and Jackie Stewart. Actor Dwayne Cameron will play the role of Bruce McLaren in additional scenes shot for the film to tell the story. Bruce McLaren famously said "I feel that life is measured in achievement, not in years alone," and the film celebrates his unrelenting drive for success. Tragically, McLaren was killed in 1970 when he crashed his M8D Can-Am car at Goodwood, and scenes from the trailer depicting this period look as if they will be tear-jerking and take you on an emotional journey. His legacy lives on in the company's continued success today. The New Zealand production backed by Universal Studios is being directed by Roger Donaldson, whose credits include The World's Fastest Indian, and is due to speed into theaters at some point this year. If you consider yourself a passionate gearhead, this should be unmissable.
