Ford' s Ousted President Raj Nair Joins Multimatic To Keep Building The GT

May. 22, 2018 12:00 PM ET by Noah Joseph Industry News / 7 Comments The father of the Ford GT will keep building it in his new role Just a couple of months ago, Ford kicked one of its most senior executives to the curb. But he won't be separated from his baby for long. Road & Track reports that Raj Nair was named president and COO of Multimatic earlier this month. If the name of that company sounds familiar, it's probably because it's the one that the Blue Oval automaker – under Nair's direction – chose to build the new Ford GT, a model for which Nair was largely responsible for ushering into production. "Raj brings extensive knowledge, perspective and skills in engineering, manufacturing, management and overall auto industry experience to Multimatic," spokesman Michael Guttilla told R&T. "These qualities will help Multimatic attain another level of performance for our customers. The addition of Raj to our leadership team was about making a great company even better. His skill-set is perfectly aligned with Multimatic's core competencies and purpose." Nair had worked at Ford since 1987, ascending the ranks over the course of three decades. He served as CTO from 2012 to 2017 when he was named president for the North American region. His new boss Jim Hacket fired Nair this past February for undisclosed "inappropriate behavior" that was "inconsistent with the company's code of conduct." Among the many projects that Nair spearheaded in Dearborn was the second-generation Ford GT, with its lightweight, streamlined construction and compact 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6. He received his very own in a special Victory livery mere days before he was ousted from the top floor of the Glass House in Dearborn.
