Audi e-tron Quattro Edging Closer To Production

May. 17, 2018 12:30 PM ET by Martin Bigg Spy Shots / 1 Comment The final production model will be revealed in Brussels on August 30. Audi is gearing up to unleash an onslaught of EVs, starting with the e-tron Quattro that will take on the Tesla Model X and Jaguar I-Pace. We'll get to see it in all its production glory in Brussels on August 30, but in the meantime a near-production prototype of the e-tron Quattro has been caught by our spies being tested on the Nurburgring. It's wearing the same camouflage as the prototype Audi previewed at the Geneva Motor Show, but this is the first time we've seen it tearing up the track. While Audi is busy applying the finishing touches to the e-tron Quattro, the design hasn't changed since the prototype was unveiled in March. An aerodynamic grille is flanked by distinctive headlights and triangular air intakes. The overall shape is less dramatic than the original concept and looks like a cross between a wagon and crossover, allowing Audi to capitalize on the popularity of crossovers while offering the practicality of a wagon. Audi has confirmed the e-tron will have a 95 kWh lithium-ion battery enabling the electric crossover to travel more than 248 miles. As standard, an 11 kW AC charger will enable the model to be charged at up to 2.3 kW when connected to a 230 volt household outlet. When a 400 volt three-phase outlet is used, the model can be charged at its full 11 kW capacity, but still takes around 8.5 hours to fully charge even with this configuration. Audi hasn't detailed the e-tron's powertrain, but the original concept had three electric motors that produced 429 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. This enabled the e-tron to hit 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds before reaching a limited top speed of 130 mph.
