Here Are More BMW M2 Competition Secrets Courtesy Of One Enthusiast

Apr. 15, 2018 9:30 AM ET by Jay Traugott Leaked / 3 Comments How come there's no carbon fiber roof option? Read on. Last week, the first pictures of the BMW M2 Competition were leaked before the official reveal, expected later this month at the Beijing Motor Show. We also learned it'll come powered by the 3.0-liter biturbo six-cylinder with a total of 404 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. Today, however, more leaked details have come to light, thanks to an enthusiast poster on Bimmer Post. The leaks consist of images taken from pages of the next Evo Magazine. While the leaked images aren't anything special, it's the written details that are the focus. Best of all, official specs are provided. For starters, it can now be confirmed the M2 Competition will not have a bespoke engine, as previously rumored, but instead will use the M4's S55 engine, though it's slightly less powerful for this application. Either a six-speed manual (thanks to American demand) or a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox are on offer. With the latter, 0-62 mph happens in 4.2 seconds. Also like the M4, the M2 Competition will receive the same carbon fiber strut tower brace along with massive 400mm front rotors, 380mm rear rotors with six-piston calipers up front and four-pots out back. The interior features the M4's sport seats along with illuminated "M2" badges. The steering is also straight from the M3/M4. Exterior changes appear to be fairly minimal, save for unique badges, as the standard M2's bulging arches front and rear remain the same size here. There's also a new front bumper and redesigned kidney grille. Weight is also surprisingly slightly up, now at 3,417 pounds instead of the standard M2's 3,295 pounds, mainly due to the extra engine cooling components. The extra weight is, according to Evo, "an unavoidable side-effect of the new engine." Also interesting to note is the fact there's no carbon fiber roof option, which was eliminated due to high cost. Pricing, at least for the UK, will start at 47,260 GBP, and sales will get underway in July. BMW
