2021 Genesis G80 Destroyed Just Minutes After Delivery

May. 02, 2020 6:51 AM ET by Martin Bigg Crash / 16 Comments It didn't take long for someone to crash the 2021 Genesis G80. Over in South Korea, someone was looking forward to becoming the proud new owner of a 2021 Genesis G80. Unfortunately, their joy was extremely shortlived as you can see from these images of the luxury Korean sedan. Details about this unfortunate accident are scarce, but the crash reportedly happened just "minutes" after it was delivered. It's unclear, however, if the accident happened after the car was delivered to a customer or a dealership, but it will require some hefty repairs. Judging from the damage, another vehicle appears to have smashed into the side of the car so the driver may not have been at fault. https://twitter.com/kiailove5/status/1254538063419707394 kiailove5 / Twitter kiailove5 / Twitter A large section of the driver's side front quarter panel was ripped off in the accident, while the rest of the fender is dismembered. Elsewhere, the driver's side door is badly dented and scraped, the left mirror is bent, and a section of one of the headlights is missing. The facelifted 2021 Genesis G80 made its world debut back in March, so we could be looking at the first wrecked customer car. Not that this is an achievement to be proud of. The Genesis G80 incorporates the automakers "Athletic Elegance" design language featuring a large crest mesh grille, double-lined Quad lamp headlights, and sharp styling that make it look less conventional than its predecessor. Unfortunately, its elegant looks have been ruined by the accident. kiailove5 / Twitter kiailove5 / Twitter Under the hood, the 2021 Genesis G80 is offered with a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-four producing 304 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque as standard or an optional 3.5-liter turbo V6 with 380 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. Standard safety tech for the updated Genesis G80 includes ten air bags, cruise control, lane change assist, blind-spot collision avoidance, and forward collision-avoidance. Clearly, the latter assist didn't prevent this accident from happening. Sales of the 2021 Genesis G80 are expected to kick off later this year in the US. Genesis Genesis Genesis
