Volkswagen Working On Secret Sports Car Project

The Volkswagen ID.4 will be the first all-electric model to sit in the German automaker's new ID. lineup of vehicles. While no performance variant is currently confirmed, we have seen the extent of speed VW can squeeze from an electric motor with the ID.R racecar. As a brief reminder, the ID.R is an electric racecar that has dominated pretty much every record attempt it has participated in. With 670 electric horsepower on tap, the ID.R has smashed the Nurburgring's EV record and we even witnessed it break the overall record at the Goodwood Hillclimb. Perhaps even more impressively, the ID.R claimed the overall record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, beating the previous record by 16 seconds. To commemorate this achievement, the Volkswagen Group of America has filed a trademark with the United States Patent And Trademark Office. Volkswagen Volkswagen The application was filed on March 25, 2020, for the name "Peak Edition." VW has requested to use the name for automobiles and trim pieces, which means we could see a future model with a Peak Edition trim level. This leads us to a ton of speculation on which model could receive a Peak Edition. VW did tease a Golf R powered by the ID.R's batteries but with an all-new, eight-generation Golf GTI on the way, this seems like an unlikely candidate for the Peak Edition treatment. Perhaps when the new GTI does arrive stateside, VW will offer a Peak Edition model as a first-year special trim level. Volkswagen Volkswagen Volkswagen Since it was VW Group itself that filed the patent application, it could also be possible that the Peak Edition name could be used on one of the company's other brands. Last year, the Bentley Continental GT broke the production car record at Pikes Peak, so we could image Bentley releasing yet another special edition to commemorate the achievement.
