Cadillac's Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver-assist technology remains a critical part of the luxury brand's strategy to attract new customers. The impressive system was originally launched on certain versions of the 2018 Cadillac CT6 sedan, which has since been discontinued. However, Super Cruise very much lives on and will be available in the all-new Cadillac Escalade. But here's the thing: the Super Cruise service comes with a three-year free trial, so what happens when that period is up? Those first CT6 customers must be wondering because that trial period will expire next month. Motor Trend reached out to Cadillac to ask how much the luxury brand would charge for an active Super Cruise subscription. Unfortunately, a company spokesperson could not provide an answer. Fortunately, Cadillac has made crystal clear vehicles equipped with the system will retain their adaptive cruise control and lane-centering features "with or without an active Super Cruise subscription." Now, it's important to remember GM intends to offer Super Cruise to 22 vehicles by 2023, and those customers will also be required to pay for the tech's upfront cost. It'll be up to them whether they wish to continue paying for the subscription fee after three years, as is the case with OnStar or SiriusXM satellite radio. It will be interesting to see how many of these early CT6 owners do ultimately decide to keep the system. Chances are it'll be those who travel on a regular basis. Once the system has been activated, minimal driver interaction is necessary, though drivers should still pay attention to their surroundings. There's even an in-vehicle camera that monitors the driver's attention to determine if they're distracted.
