2020 Corvette Stingray Recalled Over Serious Safety Issue

Last month, owners of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray discovered an alarming safety issue with the mid-engine sports car. When driving, some owners have found the hood/frunk can release without warning, blocking their view of the road. This is obviously very dangerous and could cause a serious accident. Luckily, no accidents or injuries relating to this problem have been reported yet, but the NHTSA has received several complaints from owners. General Motors is still investigating this issue to find a resolution. In the meantime, GM has issued a recall for the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray relating to a different problem with the front trunk. Chevrolet Chevrolet According to Louisville Chevy Dude, GM is recalling the C8 Corvette because "certain 2020 model year Chevrolet Corvette vehicles fail to conform to S4.1 of Federal/Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (F/CMVSS) No. 401, Interior Trunk Release." After shutting down for ten minutes, these affected cars are designed to enter a low-power "sleep" mode. When in sleep mode, the trunk lid release button inside the front trunk compartment may not work. This is a safety hazard as a child or small person could climb inside the trunk area and be unable to get out if they close the lid. Chevrolet Chevrolet To fix this issue, General Motors will update the software to lower the voltage required to make the trunk release button work. This will enable the trunk release button to function when the car is in sleep mode. Owners can either update their software using wireless over-the-air updates or have the update installed at a dealership. As for the hood opening unexpectedly, General Motors is looking into improving the warnings that alert the driver of the hood being open by increasing the volume of warning chimes and changing the messaging displayed on the Driver Information Center.
