There are two kinds of sports injuries: acute and chronic. An injury that occurs suddenly, such as a sprained ankle caused by an awkward landing, is known as an acute injury.

Chronic injuries are caused by repeated overuse of muscle groups or joints. Poor technique and structural abnormalities can also contribute to the development of chronic injuries. Medical investigation of any sports injury is important, because you may be hurt more severely than you think. For example, what seems like an ankle sprain may actually be a bone fracture.

Types of sports injuries

Some of the more common sports injuries include:Ankle sprain – symptoms include pain, swelling and stiffness.Bruises – a blow can cause small bleeds into the skin.Concussion – mild reversible brain injury from a blow to the head, which may be associated with loss of consciousness. Symptoms include headache, dizziness and short term memory loss. Cuts and abrasions – are usually caused by falls. The knees and hands are particularly prone.Dehydration – losing too much fluid can lead to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.Dental damage – a blow to the jaw can crack, break or dislodge teeth.Groin strain – symptoms include pain and swelling.Hamstring strain – symptoms include pain, swelling and bruising.Knee joint injuries – symptoms include pain, swelling and stiffness. The ligaments, tendons or cartilage can be affected.Nose injuries – either blood nose or broken nose, are caused by a direct blow.Stress fractures – particularly in the lower limbs. Sportsmate 5 A Consumer Fitness Exoskeleton That Actually Works

Sportsmate 5 A Consumer Fitness Exoskeleton That Actually Works

Sportsmate 5: A Consumer Fitness Exoskeleton That Actually Works
MUO

Enhanced Robotics Sportsmate 5 Exoskeleton Review Consumer Fitness Robot Legs That Actually Work
The Sportsmate 5 is a consumer fitness-based exoskeleton for fitness and general assistance. It's an early prototype, but it is quite impressive!

8.00 An AI-powered consumer fitness exoskeleton that helps you up the hills, and makes bodyweight exercises harder? The Sportsmate5 is an interesting prospect - but crucially, it's one that delivers, and at a reported $899 launch price, it's more affordable than most other smart fitness devices. Key Features AI-powered assistance and resistance via hip mounted servos that move based on how you move 2 main modes: Assistance, and Fitness provide both help and make some movements harder Specifications Brand: Enhanced Robotics Weight: 3.8KG (2.5KG promised for final release) Battery Life: 3 hours Pros Provides genuine assitance when walking/running up stairs and hills Fitness mode adds resistance hard to find any other way Easy to wear and use No app required, no social media tie ins, no extra faff Cons Feels heavy after some time Negative resistance mode didn't seem to do much on downhills Buy This Product Sportsmate5 When you think of exoskeletons, several things might come to mind. To me, those things are science fiction, crazy military research, and medical rehabilitation, in that order. Exoskeletons focused on the consumer market to enhance hobby-level sport and fitness seem to land firmly in the science fiction category, and yet for the past couple of week's I've been testing a late prototype set of… well... robot legs. The Sportsmate5 uses artificial intelligence to provide natural assistance and resistance through an exoskeleton attached to your hips and legs, and it's not some mad future mock-up that will never come to be. Instead, the late prototype version is more or less what you'll be getting when it comes to Kickstarter in November 2021. Is the era of personal robotic assistance finally here, or is the Sportsmate5 a niche device packaged as a consumer product? Well, in a way, it's both - and that's not a bad thing. Note: This review was for a prototype, so images may not reflect the final product, and each one is tested fully before shipping so there are some marks on this particular test version.
My Exoskeleton Credentials
Before we start, why should you care what a tech blogger thinks of an exoskeleton? That's a fair question. I'm not a qualified roboticist, and my hands-on experience with exoskeleton technology starts and ends with the Sportsmate5. In my defense, you'd be hard pushed to find any tech blogger with that experience. I am someone who knows enough about embedded systems and how developers can use AI to enhance human/robot interactions to talk about what is going on under the hood here, but that's actually not all that important either. The Sportsmate5 is a consumer device aimed at people into fitness, both by adding resistance and assistance where necessary. I am a runner who uses bodyweight resistance work as part of my training, and my most recent training was for a 55km road Ultramarathon I completed the day before finalizing this review. I may not be a qualified roboticist, but as someone who needed help climbing the two flights of steps to get to my computer that day, I can confirm right off the bat that this isn't a scam. It genuinely assists, as the timing of this review placed me in the rare position of temporarily having a severe lack of movement ability! It's not without its quirks, though, and at a reported launch price of $899, it's not cheap either.
The Sportsmate5 In Brief
The Sportsmate5 attaches to your waist via an inflatabale strap, with two high-performance servos attaching to thigh straps via linked metal connectors. These metal shafts are rigid in one plane but move quite freely in others, allowing the motors to provide forward and rear driving motions while allowing for some sideways leg movement. Encoders inside the servo housing read your own body's movement data, and the onboard microcontroller uses this information to drive the servos proportionally, helping to move your legs forward when in assistance mode. The straps are strong, and not dissimilar to the types used in various medical settings, and the general fit of the device is initially quite comfortable. After putting the Sportsmate5 on, which can be done alone, a button on the underside triggers the inflation pump, and you are ready to go. One side has a power button and mode switch - which puts you in either assistance or resistance mode. Once a mode is selected, a switch on the opposite side activates it, and a dial changes the amount of assistance or resistance. The battery pack clips into the back and provides around 3 hours of use, though this varies with the level of assistance. There's a charger in the box, which is a bit of an odd fit, but that's probably down to the prototype nature of this version. For something so futuristic, it was pretty simple to get up and running.
The All-Important Question Does It Work
Yes. Yes, it does. Surprisingly well. It feels unusual at first for sure, but at this stage it's worth noting that the Sportsmate5 never moves unless prompted by you. There's no scope for Wallace and Gromit Wrong Trousers shenanigans here. It uses the encoders on the motors to sense your movement and assist it, rather than forcing you to move at its pace. If you've ridden an electric bike, you'll know this feeling already: it's an extension of your own body's power. In a similar vein, if you slow down and your legs start moving in smaller strides, the Sportsmate5 mimics this too. After the initial strangeness, It's a very natural feeling. One that can only get more natural as the AI model learns your gait. Most of the footage from this review is from that first day of use, and on that day I walked, ran, and did various forms of exercise on hills and on the flat. I've since tested it using the fitness guide provided by enhanced robotics, and as I previously mentioned, found it indispensable to do something as simple as get up the stairs on destroyed legs. Most of the testing for this review took place across one long day out, running around the local park, climbing hills, walking up stairs, and testing the movement limitations of the exoskeleton. Since that day, I've used the Enhanced Robotics fitness guide - a PDF of bodyweight exercises with complementary settings for the Sportsmate5 - frequently as a part of my general exercise. While I found it had limited use as a jogging aide, the fitness side of it is quite compelling, and as I previously mentioned, it also got me up the stairs today when walking to the door of the flat was quite a mission.
The Sportsmate5 Operation Modes

Assistance Mode
As the name might suggest, the standard mode assists you. It works in two directions. The first is positive assistance, which is the most intuitive. It gives four levels of 'forward' assistance, literally helping to pull the leg up and forward when you start to move. There's definitely a moment you feel the actuators take over from your initial movement, but it feels controlled. Both walking and running in this mode feel fairly - though not completely - natural. The biggest differences for me by a long stretch were the feeling of walking upstairs and running uphill. I do both every day, sometimes several times, and the difference was substantial. There is also a negative assistance mode accessible by turning assistance down until the white meter starts to fill up red instead. This mode is designed to either make walking and jogging harder as light resistance training or take some of the burden away from going downstairs and hills. This was the only mode I didn't really feel any benefit from. While the pushback may have had some positive effects, the overall feeling of having anything change your perception of balance while moving downward is a little unnerving, and when I tried using negative assistance to run down a hill, it was downright terrifying.
Fitness Mode
The fitness mode, accessible via the mode button, adds resistance instead. It is designed to make certain movements harder and complement a bodyweight fitness regime in a way simply adding a weight belt or other accessory might not be able to. Here the white and red indicator lights denote pushing or pulling resistance, and Enhanced Robotics provides a fitness handbook to give ideas for what modes would fit with what exercises. Surprisingly, this was the most useful aspect of the Sportsmate5 for me. As someone who struggles with hip-related injuries, it was a very targeted way to add angular resistance to my training. As far as settings go, that's it. Four modes of operation, each of which will theoretically learn your movement over time and improve the way they interact with you. If it was learning my movements, I didn't notice it much throughout this review. Perhaps I didn't use it long enough, or perhaps I just didn't notice it subtly getting smoother as it got used to me as much as I was getting used to it? Movement in the Sportsmate5 is generally relatively comfortable, but that comfort definitely diminishes over time.
Prototype Teething Problems
Despite the late prototype nature of the Sportsmate5, there are still a few issues Enhanced Robotics hopes to iron out before final production. Firstly, the weight. It feels surprisingly natural to use, but there's no escaping the 3.8 KGs hanging off you. It did get uncomfortable, heavy on the hips, and tight around the legs. I had them on for the best part of the whole morning, and over time that relatively light weight began to drag. It's a known issue, and after all, there isn't really anything you can do about gravity. This is also a known issue with this prototype and one that the team behind it is hoping to improve on before the Kickstarter. Plans apparently include reducing the weight to around 2.5kg, and increasing the range of motion. That range of motion isn't too limited on the prototype though. I found most exercises easy enough to do, and even jumping up onto smallish objects felt ok, though certainly a little cumbersome. Enhanced robotics also cite motor noise as an issue they want to fix, but to be honest, I never really noticed the motor sounds during the review, and unless you plan to use this in the same room someone is sleeping in, you won't have an issue. Attaching the metal leg clips is probably a louder sound than the motor noise. That said, there are some small but, in a way, significant issues. If you are using the Sportsmate5, you can't use your pockets. If you have stuff in them you can't get things out, and if you manage to slide your phone in, it might get crunched. As I said at the top of this review, I'm no expert, but I can guess that this is a limitation of this type of exoskeleton and not a failing of this particular exoskeleton.
Is the Sportmate5 Worth It
So, is the Sportsmate5 a worthwhile consumer fitness device to consider? Well, actually, yes. We should judge cutting-edge consumer tech on what it can actually do, rather than the wow factor of its tech. For an AI-powered fitness device, the Sportsmate5 is reasonably understated. No monthly subscription or slick advertising campaign, no high fives, kudos, or social media-infused app. Just a solid set of "robot legs" that does what you expect of it and nothing more. The $899 reported price tag is high but not that high. If you consider that more or less every claim Enhanced Robotics has made about this is true, it becomes an expensive but viable thing. This is especially true when compared to the legions of sports aids that actually don't do anything but claim Magical Pseudo-Science makes them 'special' in some way. I'd argue that Sportsmate5 is the special one. It isn't perfect, and the comfort and battery life-while not deal-breakers-certainly leave room for improvement. But it is what it claims to be: the first consumer exoskeleton for hiking and fitness. The technology will take off in a big way soon, but as a product right on the forefront, Enhanced Robotics has made something extraordinary. Much like VR is going through an interactive consumer-driven slow-motion explosion, personal robotics is also improving in a way that will make it mainstream sooner than most people think. If you want to be on the crest of the wave, this is where you get on.

Sports Direct Buys 25 75 Percent Stake In Embattled UK Retail Chain GAME

Sports Direct Buys 25 75 Percent Stake In Embattled UK Retail Chain GAME

Sports Direct Buys 25.75 Percent Stake In Embattled UK Retail Chain GAME Nintendo Life

"GAME is pleased that the strategic value of the group has been recognised" by Share: Controversial UK retail chain Sports Direct has purchased a 25.75 percent stake in GAME, the UK's biggest high street video game specialist. Despite its dominant position in the UK video game market, GAME has endured a difficult year. It recently posted a profit warning, as a major problem. Back in 2012 the company and was purchased by OpCapita, but its share price has recently. Following the news of the purchase, GAME's share price rallied from 20p to over 27.5p a share. Here's GAME's statement on the news: GAME is aware that Sports Direct has taken significant strategic equity stakes in a number of retail and brand businesses across both the UK and USA, and is a leading retailer which partners with major global brands and suppliers. GAME is pleased that the strategic value of the group has been recognised by Sports Direct through this acquisition of a 25.75% stake. The Group looks forward to working collaboratively with Sports Direct to explore the clear opportunities that a constructive partnership and collaboration can deliver for all stakeholders in the gaming, live events and rapidly growing esports markets in which it operates. This positive news is tempered by the fact that Sports Direct boss Mike Ashley - who has also invested in French Connection and Debenhams recently - has been . His Sports Direct retail chain has been criticised for poor pay and terrible working conditions. [source ] Share: About Damien has over a decade of professional writing experience under his belt, as well as a repulsively hairy belly. Rumours that he turned down a role in The Hobbit to work on Nintendo Life are, to the best of our knowledge, completely and utterly unfounded. Comments ) GAME has no strategic value. Mike Ashley is very dodgy Both gross companies. Hopefully they both go down together. As if there's not enough reasons to hate GAME already. exactly what I was going to say! They never learned their lesson and sorted out their prices. I much prefer shopping in Cex nowadays. Mike Ashley is a disgrace. Bad news for game and their employees. Prices might come down a touch - but at the expense of everything else! Hope they don't mess up the SNES pre-orders! This leaves me with the wobblies. Smyths is a good option for Nintendo stuff. As much as I despise the man and his business practises, he is a successful business man. So why he thinks GAME is worth investing in is a mystery to me. Agreed with , Smyths are very good. For online there's thegamecollection.net, simplygames.co.uk and shopto.net that are always worth considering. Failing that Argos, Tesco Direct and 365games.co.uk and worth checking out. Mike Ashley + GAME = Hell on Earth. Just when you thought Game couldn't get any worse. inb4 GAME sees a 25% increase in the number of zero hour contracts. Geez, reading comments about Game makes GameStop look like a saint. (Though, GS these days feels more obnoxious at worst than outright anti-consumer, so I guess I should be thankful?) I bet the staff are well chuffed, NOT! GAME has the potential to be good. GAME has the potential to be great, but it's been reduced to nothing more than a shop that sells games; games that can be bought for less with less hassle and delivered to your door on the day of release for free. There is no advantage to GAME, and it's genuinely disappointing. I used to love going in there and seeing what they had on offer, but the focus has shifted to profit over everything. Consumers are moving on and to cope they're having to boost their prices leaving the remaining few paying more for nothing extra in return. The games don't need to be on display, that space can be far better used for demo kiosks and the like where people can try games out before purchasing them, adding value to the experience. If there was an Argos-type system with a back room holding thousands of individual copies of games without the need to display them nicely they could save an incredible amount of hassle and floorspace and use that to provide other experiences for the customers. Selling games was their USP but now that has been taken over by bigger, more streamlined outlets and GAME needs to adapt to survive. And no, I don't mean by introducing a new premium membership that offers naff all. Is Mike Ashley a controversial figure whom has been in charge of companies with questionable moral standards and business practises? Yup. Does Mike Ashley turn around companies that aren't making money by making them more appealing to the consumer, and stops them going bankrupt? Yup. I think it's a double edged sword. Although he's no angel, he makes money from his businesses which keep the doors open. It means people remain employed and stock gets sold. I don't like game, but frankly there isn't really anywhere else as a physical shop to buy the more niche market items- like amiibo. Sad days for Game. I miss having somewhere fun to go for gaming. Maybe Sports Direct can turn things around but they are not a particularly moral company and I would worry about staff at game. If you thought they pushed second hand games before, god knows how much pressure they'll be under now. Totally agree re: the lack of demos. That used to be a BIG part of the experience when going into a game store (not just GAME but... stores that sell games) and now it's virtually non-existent.... Unless of course, you want a quick game of FIFA on the XBONE. I do feel that they need to move more into the gaming café style of store. Not completely, but having a section for people to meet up and play games whilst buying some food/drink would be a great way to increase footfall and demonstrate the games organically. Easy enough to organise special events that way too. GAME ate up Electronics Boutique and Gamestation and the country's game offerings are worse off for it.
I don't know if more demo pods is a good idea or not. It would likely mean more chavs clogging up the shop and it's already hard enough to move around in there because of all the shelves they cram into every store. That said, moving more stuff out the back and having a much wider stock of items accessible via an Argos style catalogue would be a great idea. The last two Games I went into didn't even have any Switch Pro controllers. Looks at the owners of sports direct and GAME.

The only thing that could save GAME is drastically overhauling their online shop to fit what other online retailers are doing, but hey ain't about to do that now are they Sports Direct? The joke of the high street sporting goods stores? Just let GAME die already. As long as they don't go belly up before I get my SNES Mini, Metroid Legacy Edition and Metroid amiibo's, I couldn't care less. I miss EB and GS. They were both better stores than GAME. Weirdly it's actually the other way around; EB took over GAME. Axis of evil right there, people. I won't be holding my breath, but I do kind of feel for the lovely GAME employees. I personally stopped going because the chain itself clearly favors PlayStation and Xbox titles. Walls and walls are filled with them - new and old. But as a primarily Nintendo-gamer, Wii U had a section with half the space that one of the other two had. And I got tired of seeing that. Well, that and the same playstation and xbox games over and over... As a consumer, to bring me back in particular, they've got to give me a better reason to hang around. Maybe a chill-out area or maybe some tournaments. A few cheap freebies would go a long way too. But the only GAME shop near me seems much more geared to getting you to buy what you want that's on display then leave. There's no attempt to make a bond with the customer (I'm not talking about the employees btw as some of them are very good at the approach and help attitude). Also, I've never liked seeing the various phones and tablets they have on display. Different kinds of tech is nice, but there's already a number of phone shops dotted around the area. GAME just isn't likely to have anything unique in that regard at all. Heck, the games ARE the USP of the shop! So I don't know what the logic behind that decision even was! And Nintendo made GAME the only place to can get 3DS streetpasses? (Which screwed me over as we don't have one on Guernsey)
Well done Nintendo, pick a winner I wonder if a shop that specialised in Nintendo games and merchandise could cope well. I like 's idea of an Argos setup that could give more space to actually enjoying the games.; demo units, some tables for snacks, drinks and multiplayer...and how about a videogame music jukebox? There should be events like tournaments and competions every month that keep the community involved too...and here's a novel idea: treat the staff with respect! Make it a job worth having. Game is a video games retailer widely disliked by people that play video games and Ashley seems to have made a fortune out of a sports shop that is widely disliked by people that play sports. Maybe there's a future in it. have you tried buying a game from them. yeah if you want pre owned one for £2 less they have it want new sealed one are you crazy. But with scum direct things can only get worse. Only plus side is the fat gerordie B$%^$%^$%£^d might lose money. It's ironic because Mike Ashley looks like your typical GAME customer Wow that's Brave. No way I'd invest into Game. Mike Ashley is a word that will get me banned if I type it here. Revolting human who treats his staff appallingly. He ignored employment legislation simply to make more money. I've never shopped at Sports Direct and if he buys up more of GAME I won't shop there again, either. Going into GAME is enough of a depressing retail experience as it is. I seriously don't see why someone would buy new releases at Game anymore other than exclusive special editions.
Their prices are a joke compared to online stores and even some non gaming specific high street stores like Argos for example.
The only times I've been into Game in recent memory is for the Pokemon codes to which I've been told I'm too old for Pokemon by the "lovely" guy behind the desk on more than one occasion and I should buy the latest Fifa release. I'll vote with my wallet at Toys'R'Us, thanks very much. They typically match the best online prices as well. I enjoy going in to GAME purely because it is the only dedicated gaming store throughout most of Scotland. However, I very rarely buy anything as their prices are criminal. All the supermarkets and online sites are selling GTA V on Xbox One for around £24 - GAME are selling it pre-owned [!!!] for £28.99. Only reason I got it there is because I had a trade-in worth £24... I'd be sad if Game were to vanish. I enjoy walking into my local and browsing the game sections of all the systems as while I'm very knowledgeable on the Nintendo side, Sony and Microsoft I don't always know what's coming out for those 2. Why I rarely buy anything new from them unless its a birthday of mine or I'm worried about getting something on day one (My Switch for example), there are always 5 for £5/£10/£20 deals on last gen stuff I sometimes take advantage of if there's a decent selection. Poor pay and terrible working conditions? Well then, at least current employees won't notice too much of a change. Total game-changer (no pun intended) for me though; Splatoon 2 is the last title I will buy with Game, I refuse to take part in any 'coffer-lining' activities when it comes to this goon. Scruples and all that. More like "GAME is pleased that they won't have to live out in the streets as someone took pity on them and bought a stake that's 20% too much to buy off this worthless and dying excuse of a gaming outlet" Hating aside I s'pose this is very important as GAME is one of the few companies (if any) that are solely dedicated to Games. Anyway, I'm happy with my regular outlets. Game are, or were, taking £50 deposits on SNES mini's. There's a failing business on the high Street. I'm going up to give them £50 in the hope they make it.
Did you ever try CEX for trade in? The prices are on their website. They charge even more ridiculous prices. £50 for a used copy of ARMS!
Their prices are expensive for current gen games. I just trade in and take the cash with them. They are brilliant for last gen games. I think the suits at GAME just think this is funny now. "What can we do to p*ss people off today?" By the looks of the comments im the only one here who likes GAME and has no issue with the stores. Before joining the league, she was dominating the college scene for the Baylor Lady Bears in Texas. She played college basketball for four years from 2009 to 13 and set multiple records during her time. Griner also led the team to a national championship in 2012. Share: About Ryan can list the first 151 Pokémon all in order off by heart – a feat he calls his ‘party trick’ despite being such an introvert that he’d never be found anywhere near a party. He’d much rather just have a night in with Mario Kart and a pizza, and we can’t say we blame him. Comments ) I need this. Golf Story was soooooooo good. These guys are right up there with Shin-en when it comes to "why are they not an official Nintendo developer." I almost bought golf story, I am sooo glad I waited to see this. Gimme that toaster baseball Ohhh yeah!!! Golf Story was a work of genius and I'm so happy to see these guys back! Bring on the sausage rolls and rap battles. I found Golf Story far too long and repetitive for what it offered gameplay wise. Hopefully this will mix things up and provide a more varied experience. ...For some bizarre reason, I stopped playing Golf Story, I don't know why. I need to finish that game. lol You could still get it. It's really fun for the most part and the dialogue is sometimes hilarious. Nice! Though I technically have yet to complete Golf Story, that is I've done the whole game but not the last competition to actually finish the game. It was just so frustrating. Loved Golf Story so cant wait for this. Have wanted a follow-up ever since it came out Golf story is proper laugh out loud stuff. The writing is hilarious. Can’t wait for this sequel! So, so, so excited for this!
LOVED Golf Story.
This was a tremendously pleasant surprise. This was the whole direct for me. Nothing else matched the caliber of this announcement. Love Golf story, can’t wait for mid 2020 YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS This was a treat. Haven't finished Golf Story ( the Blue Moon Dunes Championship is a b****. ). But what a wonderful delight it is. Hopefully, this continues that same great gameplay and story. DAY 1 Cannot wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Day one. Loved Golf Story! I so need this!! Really looking forward to this. Golf Story was amazing. I just hope that the sports included will not be degraded to "mini-games".
Still, I'll be there Day One to give it a shot! Awesome news~!! I’m so excited for this! Day one for sure! Golf story was so much fun and this looks fantastic! If Wii Sports got turn into an RPG, it would be like this game. Definitely buying it day one as I too enjoy Golf Story adn We Love Golf. Sounds great, just hoping with all those spots on offer it doesn't water things down too much. Nice that it's a Switch exclusive too, usually we're the ones waiting for games to be ported from other consoles. Very cool, one of the indie gems on switch was golf story. Best announcement of the day easily. Was just hoping for a “Tennis Story” style sequel, and was pleasantly surprised by this. I hope they can nail the mechanics for so many sports! Just brilliant. Getting this on day one! I'm almost st the end of Golf Story. This announcement is great news for me! Uh, okay? I don’t see what’s so special about Golf Story but sure why not. Not expecting anything I’d be interested in this presentation, but this was beyond a pleasant surprise... Nice, day one purchase! I ended up buying it Digital and again when it was released by limited run (together with thr vinyl of that awesome soundtrack!). Have to support these guys!! Pretty cool. I enjoyed Golf Story, though not as much as say Mario Golf on 3DS or even on the GBA. But I'll keep my eyes on this. This was a nice surprise as the lead off to today's Indie World. Really loving Golf Story, so I'm looking forward to this one. Great way to start, really enjoyed Golf Story PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a combo physical version
If you really liked Mario Golf, particularly gameboy/gba era, that's the crowd Golf Story appeals to. One aspect Id like to see them improve is course leaderboards for all time best scores. The original Golf on GB included a top 5 leaderboard for each course...Id like to see top ten or so. It really added to the replay factor trying to beat your best scores. This is so dumb I’m so happy it looks so great. Having just finished Golf Story last nigh, I am eagerly waiting for this game now. Sports Brawler HyperBrawl Tournament Is Getting A Revamped Release On Switch Nintendo Life

And it's coming this summer by Share: on Indie developer Milky Tea Studios has announced that will be bringing its arcade-style sports-brawler action to Switch and other platforms this summer. The game is said to be a "beautiful and fast-paced PvP experience" where players take each other on in 1-4 player arena battles. Players can choose different abilities and weapons to bring into the arena as they fight for control of the ball, before throwing it into the opposition’s goal to score points, and must try to master the 'HyperCurve', a trick which allows you to seize control of the ball mid-flight to score "legendary goals".

Here's some PR: HyperBrawl Tournament features twelve intergalactic heroes, divided into three distinct classes: Swift, Core and Tank. Each hero has their own unique stats, offering a very different experience. Players will compete in twelve arenas spread across all of space and time, each packed with dynamic obstacles, from portals and risers to moving floors that make each match even more unpredictable. Our heroes have eight mythical weapons to choose from, including the earth-shattering Slam Hammer, the lightning-quick Turbo Thruster, or the deadly, deadly and decisive Grapple Gun. As players learn the intricacies of HyperBrawl Tournament they can experiment with over 4,000 different hero and weapon combos to create their own unique playstyle, along with a custom-designed hero decked out with your choice of unlockable weapon skins, goal blazes and ball trails. The game's already out on Apple Arcade but has been "rebuilt from the ground up to leverage the power of PC and consoles". Think you'll be playing this one on Switch this summer? He also enjoys long walks and listens to everything from Motorhead to BB King. Comments ) Such great news!!! Golf Story was an excellent game, can't way to play this one! These days I usually just throw eShop games on my wish list and wait for a sale but I'll be making an exception here. Super keen. still need to play Golf Story, but still super excited for this Good to have news… unlike… Silksong… Removed - trolling; user is banned Really couldn’t tell if this game was canceled or not. Glad to hear it’s still a thing. I’ll be there. Day 1 obvious troll is obvious. Or they can continue welcoming these very good indie games to their platform. So. Darn. Excited. A new challenger approaches to the GotY discussion… These days I put games on my Nintendo wishlist until they come to game pass and I play them on Xbox. Golf Story is now 40% off on US eShop likely because of this announcement, so get it! thanks! I'm in the UK so hopefully we'll see it on sale soon literally checked the eshop about 30mins ago and it wasn't on offer, now it's about 60% off! Finally! Been waiting for it to go on sale for ages! Oh yes! Finally finally finally! This is a game I have looked forward to so so much! same! There goes my weekend XD YES!!! At long last! Absolutely cannot wait to dig into this one. Golf Story was brilliant so buying this is an easy decision. Very excited to finally play! Did not know I needed a Stardew Valley take on the GBA-era Mario Golf/Tennis formula, but here we are I'll wait for a sale on Golf Story and then get this game, seriously with so many great games coming out, it's hard to keep up. Yes! Day one purchase. Great to have a game to look forward to for the holidays! At last! ive been waiting forever it feels. Lol So many great games this year, can't believe it! its on sale right now! lol same, gonna be binging this until pokemon comes out I loved Golf Story and I was/am interested in this but honestly with all the time that’s passed I’ve kind of moved on to other things. I’ll definitely pick this up eventually though. Wow! It's finally here! I remember it being announced in December 2019, and me doing a new playthrough of Golf Story before the pandemic. A true W. Yes, Nintendo Life, that is all I want to say. and..... bought! Thanks for the heads up! Great news. Looking forward to this one. The only thing that saved the show Golf Story reminded me of the best parts of Mario Golf for GBC I simply cannot wait!!! Have you played golf story? It's one of the best Switch exclusives. I had no fear that it was cancelled because of the quality of their last game. Although, I did follow the studio pretty closely. Too bad it's releasing so late in the year. This is a clear challenger for Game of the Year. The amount of games on switch is overwhelming. I'm still discovering amazing indies that came out years ago. Golf Story was decent fun. Already having it as my golf game (as well as golf in Clubhouse Games), albeit admittedly minimalist in terms 'golf games', is what kept me from getting Mario Golf Super Rush when it came out... and I'm glad I stuck with that reasoning- since Mario Golf was minimalist and lite on content itself. I’ll keep my eye on this one for an impulse sale buy most likely as I have enough in my backlog atm. … Wun can only hope. Very few games I buy day one, buy this is one of them. Can't wait. This is one that for months and months I’d check on every now and then. I eventually stopped and forgot about it because I thought it may be dead. To say I’m pleasantly surprised by the news is an understatement That was unexpected! Finally! Loved Golf Story, one of my three downloaded games, so hoping for a physical for this as I missed the Golf Story one. Hoping for a compilation (yeah right) Leave A Comment Hold on there, you need to to post a comment...
Related Articles
Which version will you choose? So I clicked that photograph. Next day, I saw that photo published in the newspapers.” Chattopadhyay added: "It was my dream that the photos I clicked get published, and people know about me." Sportsmanship shines at 18 NCAA Rowing Championship

Sportsmanship shines at '18 NCAA Rowing Championship NCAA.com
CHAMPS
PRESENTED BY SARASOTA, Fla. – Weather wreaked havoc for all 36 squads competing at the 2018 NCAA Rowing Championship in Sarasota, Fla., May 25-26. For Yale, Subtropical Storm Alberto could have sidelined the team completely, if not for the efforts of their fellow Division I crews. Head coach Will Porter was loading his team to head to the course for Friday morning’s heats when his phone began ringing. Fellow coaches were reaching out to prepare the crew for what they would see when they arrived at Nathan Benderson Park. RELATED: “As far as we can figure out, (our Varsity Eight) boat was lifted up, flipped over and landed on top of our Second Varsity Eight,” Porter said. “I immediately notified our boatman, Joel Furtek. When I got to the venue, our boat was under a tent with a swarm of people huddled around it.” Four holes about the size of a fist went straight through the hull of Yale’s Varsity Eight. UCF’s Brad Woodrick and Ohio State’s Joe Pipia quickly joined fellow boatman Furtek to repair the Bulldogs’ Second Varsity Eight – which had one hole and a broken fin. When asked about lending a hand, Woodrick just shrugged, saying his role was “minimal.” Porter called the boatmen unsung heroes, noting that the general public doesn’t realize the affect a boatman has on a team. WATCH: As the trio worked on repairs, Porter was joined by coaches from Stanford, Texas and California to reconfigure the setup of the boat. “We took the riggers, seats and foot stretchers off the Varsity Eight and adjusted them into the Second Varsity,” Porter said. After the Varsity Eight finished its heat, the boat was immediately flipped back to its Second Varsity configuration. The NCAA delayed the Second Varsity’s heat to allow the crew time to prepare the boat and get back on the water. “Our athletes were minimally affected thanks to the kindness of so many people,” Porter said. “It was a group effort and nobody batted an eye. It’s just what we do; it’s our culture.” It’s a testament to the spirit of sportsmanship,” Porter continued. “Rowers are hard-working. It’s not a high-profile sport. I think we’re as competitive as (it gets), but it’s been a sport that’s attracted upstanding people.” Despite the less than ideal start to the championship, Yale posted Top 10 finishes in all three of its boats, including a sixth-place finish for its Second Varsity Eight. The Bulldogs finished eighth in the team standings, the highest Ivy League finisher for the second straight year. “I can’t say how refreshing it is,” Porter remarked. “You hear all of these negative stories about coaches and athletes; this is such a positive thing. I just couldn’t thank everybody enough. I’ve been coaching in this sport since 1989 and I was overwhelmed, once things settled down, by everybody’s willingness to help. It’s just wonderful. It makes me proud to be in this sport; proud to be a coach and associate with my peers.”
These are the 10 oldest stadiums in Division I college football
College football has been around since 1869, meaning some stadiums are celebrating triple-digit birthdays. Baseball analyst Chris Russo did not hold back with his words after New York Mets manager Buck Showalter requested a substance check on San Diego Padres' Joe Musgrove. In Game 3 of the Wild Card series against the , Showalter asked umpire Alfonso Marquez to check Musgrove for illegalities in his spin rate. However, his request was withdrawn with Musgrove continuing in the game. Speaking on MLB Network’s “High Heat,” Russo hit out at Showalter: “I love Buck and I hate to say this. But what the 24-year-old kid with the data processing board who tells someone in the front office to tell Buck that Joe Musgrove’s spin rate is higher than it normally is so he can go moan and groan. … That was a horrific look for Showalter and the organization.” Mad Dog Russo says Mets' manager Buck Showalter looked like "a horse's rear end" for asking the umps to check Joe Musgrove for foreign substances.

Mad Dog Russo says Mets' manager Buck Showalter looked like "a horse's rear end" for asking the umps to check Joe Musgrove for foreign substances. "If you’re gonna dress down the pitcher on national television, when you’re losing 4-0, you better get it right, and he didn’t. Although the event was a smashing success, the outcome of King Kenny vs. Isiah "FaZe Sensei" was deemed questionable. For context, FaZe Sensei dominated the match and even scored a knockdown in the first round. However, the scorecards were in Kenny's favor; this sparked an online backlash against the judges. While discussing the match between the two content creators-cum-athletes, Wade opined that the FaZe member was "robbed."
Wade Plemons believes the result should be overturned
Wade Plemons gave a round-by-round breakdown of the fight, and concluded that FaZe Sensei should have won by one or two points at the end. Although he believed that the latter was "robbed," he also suggested that since Kenny was not involved in the point scoring, he should also not be criticized for it. He stated: "FaZe Sensei was robbed here but that's not Kenny's fault" Sense came out of the blocks straight away with an early knockdown. Later in the match, he threw a couple of jabs that made proper connections as well. The general consensus around the game was a victory for the latter. However, the result turned out to be different. Later in the video, Wade Plemons also added: "I wanna make sure that people know this, this is not Kenny's fault. Kenny surviving that round, being able to work the cob webs out, come back, work his jab and get back to his game plan, there's not another guy on the card that could've taken that right hand..." Sports Law Basics as Explained by Roshan Gopalakrishna Partner LawNK Notifications New User posted their first comment this is comment text Approve Reject & ban Delete Logout
Sports Law Basics as Explained by Roshan Gopalakrishna Partner LawNK
Roshan Gopalakrishna, Partner LawNK As the Indian sports industry grows, so too is the practice of sports law as a distinct specialization. Sports lawyers are instrumental in structuring commercial deals, ensuring myriad compliances, and advising diverse stakeholders ranging from leagues, startups, players, broadcasters, administrators, and even envisioning policy. Roshan Gopalakrishna is a partner at the Law Offices of Nandan Kamath (‘LawNK’), one of the country’s pioneering sports law firms, based in Bengaluru. A graduate of India’s premier law school, National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Roshan has also completed a Master's in Sports Law from De Montfort University in Leicester, England. Besides being a practicing sports lawyer with over 13 years of experience, Roshan is a director at The Sports Law & Policy Centre (SLPC), a think-tank committed to researching and raising awareness around key legal and aspects of sports. As a part of our ongoing "Business of Sports" educational series, Roshan answers frequently asked questions surrounding sports law.
Sports Law 101
1) What is sports law? Sports law is the interaction between law and sport. By law, I mean different things. For example, the rules of each sport are for the purpose of that sport. Courts will never interfere in such matters, saying a ‘cricket bat or ball has to be of a particular size’. These are considered purely sporting aspects which are to be dealt with as per the rules of the game and within the rules of the game. Equally, there is another side where sporting bodies, sports stars [and] franchises also interact with the law as we do, as citizens, as individuals. There, the interaction between sport and law can take many distinct twists and turns. 2) What are the areas of sports law? The areas are very diverse. To give you an example, if there’s an franchise, Company Law gets involved because you need to set up a Company which is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) just to own and operate an franchise. There’s contracts… contracts with players, with coaches, itself, your support staff, other service providers. You end up dealing with local administrations... you will need to get a lot of clearance from local law enforcement authorities, health and safety. Even getting a to set up a ticketing stall, Shops and Establishments registration for your own office, etc. So there’s the civil law part, the commercial part, and the IP () part because so much of the sport is about how you monetize the content you create and own. There’s tech law as well. Sport is no longer viewed the way it was 10 years ago. For instance, people in general don’t have patience to watch an ODI. It's all down to highlights and shorter clips. The next stage is potentially going to be more for fans back home and even for fans in stadiums... [and] with the roll out of 5G we will probably get there. Interestingly, sports have a criminal law aspect as well. There have been instances where players have been violent on-field. These instances are also dealt with within the rules and regulations of the sport, within the norms established by the governing body in terms of what is permitted, what doesn’t and what happens if you breach the rules. Coming to criminal law, there is also the question of ‘how do combat sports even exist?’ There’s been a lot of jurisprudence around how there are rules at play for each sport. If you look at [the] , for the longest time, boxers used to wear headgear and mouth guards, but it’s not what you see at the professional level. So are you consenting to bodily harm and getting paid for it? Combat Sports is a unique example of how sports can seemingly bypass criminal law by allowing the infliction of bodily harm. The more you think about it, there’s so much to sports law, and there are very few practitioners who can cover it all. 3) Is sports law a unique discipline compared to other branches of law? What distinguishes a general practitioner from a specialist is nothing but domain expertise. So while I am primarily a lawyer, I would say I am better at applying the law to sports than applying the law towards corporate. The last part of understanding the domain is the commercial ecosystem, which has its various pushes and pulls. I think it’s the same with any field of specialization. You need to understand the entire ecosystem, and only when you get the hang of it can you say ‘I’m a specialist. This is what I do.’ Primarily you are a lawyer. To a client it doesn’t make any difference. Think of it as a doctor. It doesn’t matter what kind of a doctor…if you know a doctor you’ll end up asking them questions about any ailment that you may have. The doctor could either help you or not, or direct you elsewhere. That’s what’s starting to happen with sports law as well. Increasingly, with big business houses investing in sport, what is happening is they are saying ‘okay we need people who understand this space’ and therefore general practitioners may not be able to do it. Even your client, who is a , will call you up for any legal issues. There’s lots of interesting work that comes with simply being involved in sports. You can do a lot of work around technology, policy, and broadcast. 4) What are the biggest misconceptions around the practice of sports law? People think I can get them tickets any time they want! Some of the misconceptions are... obviously at the time that I started off thirteen years ago, it wasn’t a field that many people knew. There were, I won’t say misconceptions, but apprehensions about whether this was even a stable career path. It has worked so far, and I hope it stays that way. Otherwise I think in sports law in general, there is a misconception that it is a very glamorous field. If it was a lawyer practicing in any other field, let’s say constitutional lawyer…you are not going to argue in the Supreme Court or in front of a constitutional bench in the first six months of your practice. It’s a pretty long road to be able to get there and be able to understand the nuances and build up your practice, your reputation, and more importantly, your skills. A lot of the work we do is incredibly basic in terms of trademark protection, commercial drafting….all of which adds up to the larger picture. When younger lawyers come in, they want to work on endorsements or player transfer agreements. To get to an endorsement, you need to understand so many other things….you need to understand the Consumer Protection Act, , the laws around surrogates, and banned extensions. The [final] agreement, in some sense, is just the end product or the expression of what you know and how well you know it. 5) Is interest in sport necessary to be a good sports lawyer? Personally for me, sport was a huge area of interest and that’s how it started. But I’ve seen colleagues who are just good lawyers first. That’s all it takes. You may not even be interested in sports. But you need to understand the domain, which is a lot more than what’s happening on the field. Coming back to my first point: you need to understand the interaction between sport and law. Some may not watch cricket matches, and still know a lot about . 6) Is there an overlap in the functions of a sports lawyer, a sports agent and a player manager? There is some amount of overlap. But lawyers who are lawyers should first steer clear of making commercial calls or calls around the clients’ playing careers, all of which are probably better handled by a or manager. There’s a young breed of lawyers coming up who are trying to set up their own agencies or making the shift to [the] sports business side. As a lawyer, if someone is well entrenched with a client, the access that you can have to documentation is quite unparalleled because you are potentially the only one who has access to all the documentation and can look at the different pieces of the puzzle before putting them together. That is a huge learning advantage. You're not just looking at the larger picture, you are reading each line and saying 'okay, is there an impact this has on the contract we did a few days ago?’ No one else will necessarily think that way, and that is primarily what a lawyer’s role also is – bringing order to what’s potentially a lot of chaos. The late NBA Commissioner David Stern was a lawyer turned business executive, a trend starting to be seen in India as well, feels Mr Roshan Gopalakrishna. For example, you are working on an endorsement. You obviously need to understand how the law plays out with the contract that is in front of you. But equally, you will be called in to provide your input on things like ‘hey, this is the script for the ad, what do you think?’ or ‘the player is available for only three hours, the contract needs him to be available for four.’ Is there a process provided in the agreement by which you can manage the player’s schedule? So a lot of the operational bits also need to be captured within your paperwork. 7) Is sports law a good career? Please share your own career path… My career path was slightly different and definitely not the most ideal. I decided in my fourth year of college that I just wanted to be a sports lawyer, and I wanted to be nothing but that. There weren’t many sports lawyers in India at the time. How I was going to be a sports lawyer, I didn’t know. But what I did do was do internships with player management companies, marketing companies [and] some law firms that at that point had a fledging sports law practice. I had no doubt that this was an area of work that would hold my interest for a longer time than most other things would. By that time, I had already eliminated litigation as a career option. Corporate law was a backup if nothing else worked, or I would have appeared for the civil services exam. The advice I would give is, focus on being a good lawyer first. The skills you need to be a sports lawyer are something you can always pick up. 8) What are the skills that make a good sports lawyer? The skills are, I think, understanding first that sport is not the same as any other domain of law. There are a particular set of rules and laws that have to be followed no matter what. As I said, the sporting aspect of sports. 9) Do sports lawyers also have a role as policy makers in a country like India? A couple of things are combined here. First, it is just the ability to well and look up the best practices from other jurisdictions. The second is understanding the current domain in India and trying to figure out what it is that needs fixing and how it can be fixed. Maybe "fixed" is the wrong word. At least what "suggestions" you can offer for things to improve, because ultimately, policy is a few years ahead of the law. Very often when policy is not in tune with the interests at the top, it will never see the light of day. But what we are trying to do through SPLC is just keep talking about Indian sport, about the issues that really matter, whether it’s in India or globally. To keep putting out content [and] organizing annual symposiums. We believe that Indian sports law and policy deserves one such platform and we are probably best placed to provide that platform. 10) What advice would you give to young law students aspiring to become sports lawyers today? Internships are definitely the way to go. While you can have an idea of what this particular field of area is, until you experience it in a work atmosphere, you may not really know if it is the right field for you. Secondly, internships also tend to take away any misconceptions that people may have. You are just one step removed, in some sense, from being an associate, and it gives you a fair idea of what associates can expect. You have to start with the basics, there’s no other way of doing it. You need to be open to experiences as well. Someone I interned with once said ‘I ’. It was probably the best piece of advice someone has ever given me. But I saw the sense of that only many years down the line. 11) Is a Sports Law LLM necessary to become a good sports lawyer? It’s helpful. I don’t think it’s necessary. A part of it also is. There may be some international organizations where if you want to get in, you may need an internationally renowned LLM. But otherwise, I think [if] you just know your field of work very well, that’s more than enough. 12) What are the best colleges/universities to study sports law – both in India and abroad? There are a few courses but I don’t know how good or bad they are. I personally completed a distance education LLM, but I also did it just to tick a box. I was doing it from India itself, at my own time and pace. 13) What are the various sports laws in India that sports business professionals should be aware of? First, the National Sports Code of 2011. The second would be how the Constitution would deal with sports as a state subject. From a broadcaster perspective, it’s the Mandatory Sharing Act (‘Sports Broadcasting Signals Mandatory Sharing with Prasar Bharati Act, 2007’) where broadcasters of sporting events of national importance have to share a clean feed with Prasar Bharati for rebroadcast, which has a huge impact on the commercial model for many sports events in India, especially with international sports events. From a purely commercial perspective, the Trademark Act, Copyright Act, Contract Act, the Consumer Protection Act & ASCI (Advertising Standards Council of India Guidelines)… are the things to know because a lot of people do end up working in . For people running academies, just knowing POSH [Sexual Harassment of Women at Work Place (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013] and POCSO [Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012], understanding what policies to have in place if you are dealing with minors, women, besides workplace harassment. For players, they will usually be governed by the rules of the governing body itself. So even in the absence of any national law, the fact is that sports is built on pyramid structures. There’s a global governing body and most of its rules and regulations are replicated in the constitution documents or the governing documents of its members. 14) What is your basic legal advice to sports startups? Ensure that all your paperwork is in order, just to avoid any unpleasant surprises later. Unpleasant surprises can apply both ways – things really take off or things don’t take off at all. I’d say also understand that lawyers are there to play a specific role. Lawyering is seen as just ticking a box and a compliance checklist. Essentially what most agreements do is they capture the understanding between two parties. You can’t, for example, send an email to a lawyer and say, "send agreement." The more the information that’s provided and the more questions they are open to answering, the better overall for lawyers and everyone else concerned. Because if things go wrong, the person they will come to first is the lawyer. 15) Lastly, why is sports law significant in today’s day and age, especially from an Indian context, and how do you see this field evolving? On the commercial side, a lot has been going on with the next wave of broadcasters and we’ve seen this in the this year. Different entities are willingen willing to put in so much more on the digital side of things, and that is potentially where the growth is going to happen. , , tech-based , the tech side of things more than any other side [is where things are evolving]... [while] the League stage is probably quite saturated. Equally, the growth that is betting on and more largely on India’s population is what will drive Indian sport to the next phase of growth. More funds will be available from the grassroots upwards to develop and build a better ecosystem. Poll : 0 votes Quick Links More from Sportskeeda Thank You! For only the 28th time, we have a sports equinox. For 76 years, have played in the USA, but for the second time this month and just the 28th time in history, will be played on the same day. There is considerable overlap between the , and seasons, but MLB stands alone as the only summer sport. As the baseball season has run longer and started to carry over into the first few days of November, we've had more equinoxes in the last few years. However, thanks to an MLB lockout that caused the league to start a week later, the World Series could run the first week of November. Unfortunately, MLB was smart with their scheduling, and this is the last day baseball and football will be played on the same day. So it will be another year before we will have another of these rare occurrences.

Sports Equinox Parlay Leg #1 - MLB No Runs in the First Inning -120
After a mediocre regular season, Noah Syndergar is finding his groove in the postseason. He has only pitched five innings, but he has only given up one run, and as a result, he has been called on to start Game 3 of the World Series. McCullers is going for the Astros, and outside of a bad first inning against New York, he has been clean as well. So a NRFI is a great way to start this parlay.
Sports Equinox Parlay Leg #2 - NHL Hurricanes vs Capitals -114
The Carolina Hurricanes will host the Washington Capitals today (October 31) at the PNC Arena. The Hurricanes are the heaviest favorites on the NHL slate, but Washington has won five of their last six meetings. So there's no smart play on the moneyline. However, the over has hit five of the last six times the two teams have played in Raleigh. Goals come by the bundle when these teams meet, so smash the over.

Sports Equinox Parlay Leg #3 - NBA Giannis Antetokounmpo Under 32 5 Points -104
The 5-0 Milwaukee Bucks play the 2-5 Detroit Pistons. The Bucks are one of the best teams in the NBA, while the Pistons are at the other end of the spectrum. Playing at home, the Bucks should quickly run up the score on Detriot, so bettors can expect minimal minutes for Giannis Antetokounmpo in the second half, making it difficult for him to hit his prop today.
Sports Equinox Parlay Leg #4 - NFL Cincinnati Bengals -178
The Cincinnati Bengals are in Cleveland tonight to play the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football. Recently, the Browns have owned the Bengals, but Clevland is still figuring things out, and Cincinnati is heating up, having won four of their last five meetings. A win will keep the Bengals tied for first place in the AFC North. Burrow should cook and come up with a big win tonight.

Poll : 0 votes Quick Links More from Sportskeeda Thank You! Learn about our Medical Review Board Print Adam Burn/Getty Images When possible, preventing a sport injury is better than having to recover from one. The best way to avoid injuries is to be physically and mentally prepared for your sport. The first step is learning about how to prevent injuries and following basic injury prevention advice. You'll also want to know what to do if you do get hurt—from treating an injury at home to knowing when it's time to see your doctor. The Most Common Sports Injuries Preventing Overuse Injuries To prevent overuse injuries, you'll want to avoid weekend warrior syndrome and balance training with adequate periods of rest. Here are some tips to get you started. Wear and use proper gear for your sport, including helmets, pads, shoes, sunglasses, gloves and layered clothing where appropriate. Understand the rules and follow them. They are in place for a reason. Warm up slowly before activity. This is especially important in sports like basketball and soccer that require quick, dynamic movements. Always use proper body mechanics in sports involving repetitive stress to the upper extremities (tennis, baseball, golf). Listen to your body. Pain is a warning sign of injury. Don't work through pain—instead, stop or slow your activity until the pain subsides. Use specific skills training to prepare for your sport. Work with a certified coach or instructor if you aren't sure how to best train. Cross train for overall conditioning. Cross training allows specific muscles to rest and can alleviate boredom in your routine. Coping With a Sports Injury Immediate Injury Treatment If you suffer an acute injury, such as a strain or pulled muscle, immediately stop the activity. Next, use the R.I.C.E. (Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation) method of treatment. The R.I.C.E. Method Rest prevents further injury and allows for healing.Ice helps with swelling and pain. Icing an injury constricts blood vessels and limits the bleeding in the injured area.Compression also limits swelling and provides support to an injured joint.Elevation uses gravity to improve swelling by reducing blood flow to the injured area. You should start using the R.I.C.E. method as soon as possible after an injury occurs. Immediately apply ice to the area, using a sheet or towel to protect your skin. Next, wrap an elastic bandage around the ice and injured area. It should be snug, but you don't want to wrap it so tightly that it cuts off the blood supply. Leave the ice on for about 15 minutes. You can repeat every three hours throughout the day. Once the swelling decreases, you can start doing gentle range of motion exercises for the affected joint. First Aid for Sports Injuries When to See A Doctor Most acute injuries can be treated with the R.I.C.E. method, but some will need to treated by a physician. Call your doctor if: You have severe pain in a joint or bone, or the pain persists for more than two weeks. You have pain that radiates to another area of the bodyYou have point tenderness (you can cause pain by pressing on a specific area, but pain is not produced at the same point on the other side of the body). You have any injury to a joint that produces significant swelling. If left untreated, joint injuries can become permanent. You cannot move the injured part of your body. You have persistent numbness, tingling, or weakness in the injured area.Your injury hasn't healed after three weeks. You have an infection with pus, red streaks, a fever, and/or swollen lymph nodes. Recovery From Injuries Healing from sports injuries can take time. However, you don't necessarily want to be totally immobile if you don't have to be. Research suggests that much rest and not enough movement can hinder the healing process rather than help it. Bone, tendon, ligament, and muscle all require some degree of loading to stimulate healing. Optimum loading refers to starting gentle motions after a short rest period following an injury and gradually progressing the level of exercise to improve range of motion and strength. A new recommendation for injury care is P.O.L.I.C.E., which stands for: Protection, Optimum Loading, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. How Long Should You Wait to Return to Sports After an Injury? Using optimum loading also helps with blood supply and swelling. Healing is dependent on a good blood supply, which moves nutrients, oxygen, and infection-fighting cells to the damaged area and works on repairing it. Ultimately, healing time varies from person to person and can take longer with each decade of life. That said, athletes tend to have a better blood supply and heal faster than those with chronic illness, smokers, or people with sedentary lifestyles. If you're in reasonably good shape, these are the average times required to heal from common injuries. Fractured finger or toe: 3 to 5 weeksFractured clavicle: 6 to 10 weeksSprained ankle: 5 days (minor) or 3 to 6 weeks (severe)Mild contusion: 5 daysPulled muscles: A few days to several weeks (depends on the severity and location of the injury)Mild shoulder separation: 7 to 14 days. Top Foods for Sports Injury Recovery Returning to Sports After an Injury Healing time for any injury can be longer if you return to activity too soon. You should never exercise the injured part if you have pain during rest. When the injured part no longer hurts at rest, start exercising it slowly with simple range of motion exercises. If you feel pain, stop and rest. Over time, you can return to activity at a very low intensity, and build up to your previous level. Increase your exercise intensity only when you can do so without pain. If you continue to have difficulty getting out of pain, improving function, and ultimately returning to your sport, it may be in your best interest to seek a sports physical therapist to help you rehab back to your sport and prevent future injuries. How to Stay in Shape During Injury Recovery You may find that the injured part is now more susceptible to re-injury and you should pay close attention to any warning signs of overdoing it. Soreness, aches, and tension must be acknowledged or you may end up with a worse injury than you started with. Practicing injury prevention and taking the time you need to rest and heal will help prevent a more serious injury or a prolonged healing time. 6 Ways to Prevent Sports Injuries Sources Verywell Fit uses only high-quality sources, including peer-reviewed studies, to support the facts within our articles.
