The error always appears on a STOP message, which is usually referred to as a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). Any of Microsoft's Windows NT-based operating systems could experience this error. This includes newer versions like Windows 11 and Windows 10, as well as older ones like Windows XP and Windows 2000.

One or both of these errors may display on the STOP message:
STOP: 0x00000007 INVALID_SOFTWARE_INTERRUPT The error may be abbreviated as STOP 0x7, but the full STOP code is always displayed on the blue screen STOP message.
