However, Netflix has been a surprisingly strong player when it comes to licensed and original animated content, and that includes anime. The mainstream of pop culture seems to be increasingly warming up to animation as an artistic approach to respect, and anime, in particular, has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity on a global scale. It’s impressively more accessible than it was a decade or more ago, and even with more anime-centric streaming services available like Crunchyroll and Funimation, Netflix is a strong platform for fans who want a dense backlog of anime content. Longtime fans no longer have to worry about the frustrating days of scrounging for the latest fan rips in obscure corners of the internet, and newcomers will never have to know the struggle of being a fan in those days to begin with. Essentially, every major streaming service out is looking to acquire licenses to various anime franchises, and there is a noteworthy new addition to complement Netflix’s existing backlog. Despite anime being more beginner-friendly than ever before, it can still be a bit overwhelming to know where to start. Dorohedoro is a great example of this because it’s about a guy named Caiman who was cursed by a sorcerer that left him with a lizard head. Since that spell also took his memory, Caiman has to interrogate every sorcerer he finds by sticking their heads down his throat to communicate with the being inside of him. That entity will determine if Caiman found the one responsible for the curse. That’s a lot to take in, isn’t it? It’s admittedly a strange show, but Caiman’s personality and his bizarre quest win you over in the end. In a world of anthropomorphic creatures, carnivores and herbivores of all species coexist and work together. That line of coexistence is shattered when a student is devoured by an unnamed and unknown carnivore. In the midst of the growing unease at the school, Legoshi, a timid and shy carnivorous wolf, has a dramatic encounter with a small rabbit who attends the school, Haru, an encounter that may affect the fate of Legoshi and the school. Beastars originally began as a manga, written by Paru Itagaki and Akita Shoten, released in 2016. The manga went on to win a multitude of awards, including the coveted Manga Taisho Award.
