Evan BartlettJun 11, 2015 Gary Lineker said rubbing shoulders with the Fifa elite on behalf of the FA left him feeling like he needed "a good shower". The Match of the Day presenter was called in, alongside the likes of Prince William and David Cameron, to schmooze Fifa dignitaries ahead of the vote for the 2018 World Cup. But he recalled realising over a late night burger with David Beckham, who was also part of the FA delegation in 2010, that their efforts may have been in vain. I said to him, ‘Have you noticed we seem to be the only nation doing this? I've got the feeling it might already be done’. So I had that sense at the end of it all of needing a shower. Lineker who was speaking at the launch of BT Sport Europe, said he doesn't see himself getting involved in football governance. I don’t really want to go into that murky world, even if it’s just to clean it up. I’m not a political animal. I don’t think I’m false enough. He also added that he wasn't that surprised to see the levels of corruption in Fifa exposed, but that "the scale of the way the house of cards is falling and the speed of it is quite staggering". I’m not sure being delighted about that is a good thing. It’s a very good thing to see this massive amount of corruption being exposed but it’s also pretty depressing as someone who, like most people, loves the game of football. And depressing to think that it’s been run the way that it’s been run for such a long time. You sort of hope that this is a seminal moment and that something is done.
