This woman unwittingly booked a room in a Japanese ' love hotel' ended up staying for a week
Evan Bartlett (@ev_bartlettMay 07, 2015 After travelling for 27 hours and arriving in a new country for the first time, Hamnams and her boyfriend were probably just relieved to arrive at their hotel in one piece. Having booked online through a reputable agent with no qualms, the pair checked in at the front desk and headed up to their room. Not everything seemed quite normal. Like this cabinet in the lobby selling underwear... Or the slot machine in the bedroom... But nevertheless, the Brighton natives continued their stay, putting the oddities down to quirks of the local culture: "Only in Japan!" as Hamnams explained in a thread on Imgur. But then they started to notice some other things that really seemed out of place. Like the suspiciously "wipe clean" sofas... And the minibar that only sold lubricant and panties... Or the double doors that meant you could have room service delivered "no matter how nude you choose to be"... Oh, and the TV (the room also boasted a projector above the bed) that upon further inspection only had pay-per-view adult films... The final straw, however, was, um, this... This was kindly laid out at the head of our bed. As confident as we were that everything was clean, we made a point to push it to the corner of the room. I guess this is where the ball dropped that this wasn't a family hotel. Speaking to i100.co.uk, Hamnams, 23, explained that while the stay was a mistake, the cleanliness and friendliness of the staff meant they had no regrets. If our trip taught us anything, The Japanese are a wonderful, hard-working, accommodating people. We made a gaijin [foreigner's] error, but it turned out to be a happy accident. This isn't a horror story, the hotel room was spotless, and next time I'm sure we'll book deliberately.
