Ukip campaign in wrong London constituency by accident

Dina RickmanApr 16, 2015 Ukip has sent out “a number” of leaflets to the wrong north London constituency after getting its postcodes mixed up, i100.co.uk can reveal. The party made the admission after i100.co.uk was shown a leaflet for the Ukip candidate in Islington North - Greg Clough - that was sent to an address in Islington South. Ukip has since admitted it sent out election literature, which the Royal Mail deliver free for every election candidate, to the wrong constituency. While delivery is free, leaflets have to be printed and paid for by the party – and experts have estimated that this mistake could cost Ukip thousands. A spokesperson for the party, however, shrugged off questions about cost saying: “The message is out there. Worse things happen at sea.” Terry Stacy, the Lib Dem PPC for Islington South and Finsbury, told i100.co.uk it was “a total cock up”: “It couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of people. If they can’t get the basics right, god help them if they ever get elected to anything.” A Ukip spokesperson said: “The hyperventilation of the local Lib Dems in Islington makes me think they’ve have too much of that fine espresso they have there. From the Lib Dems' towering position in the polls, it's quite amusing them talking about screwing anything up.
