Jon Stewart savages Dick Cheney with a balloon figuratively speaking
Samuel OsborneApr 17, 2015 Jon Stewart has once again brilliantly savaged a US political figure. This time with the aid of a balloon, and a deerstalker. In the host of The Daily Show's satirical sights this week was the hypocrisy of former vice-president Dick Cheney's attacks on Barack Obama over nuclear negotiations with Iran, calling them - the attacks that is, not the negotiations - “disingenuous, [and] utterly lacking in self-examination”. Stewart questioned Cheney's argument that Obama was weakening the US by proposing a nuclear deal with Iran. Last week, Cheney made national headlines when he told conservative radio host Hugh Hewett: “I can’t think of more terrible burden to leave the next president than what Obama’s creating here." On Thursday's Daily Show, Stewart attacked the former VP, donning a Sherlock Holmes-style cap (and later a fedora) to mock Cheney, who was represented by a balloon with a "frowny face" drawn on it. Stewart remarked: You, sir, were arguing for the United States to lift sanctions on Iran, so that your company, Halliburton, could get contracts with this radical regime. Contracts worth millions of dollars. And pardon me if I am impugning your character, but what would you make of a man whose final act in the business world, before joining the American government as vice-president, would be to enter into contracts with the number one state sponsor of terror, just before leaving to become Bush’s running mate - contracts that were only legal because you did them through a foreign subsidiary.
